Series one is a great idea. Can't wait to drive the father in laws. I would love to see any lady driving a series one, would be like having beer goggles on.

skoda fabia 1.4 TD. fabulous things, made by VW. ignore the people who've never had one and slag them off, they're brilliant. 65 mpg, comfortable, seats 4 easily, lots of torque for the engine size, engine goes forever. tax is 35 quid.

Rob in an ideal world where you don't have to walk a minimum of 20 mins to get to a bus and 20 mins the other end and change buses in Redhill. It takes 45 mins to walk one way but she has arthritis RA (she's only 46, diagnosed with it last year - not good!) so public transport is no good.
Yes I always fancied a Beetle Marcus If she could change from 2nd to 3rd in the Series II we could keep that, need to give her lessons I think... I think a Fiesta or similar would do the trick though. It will be the first ordinary car I have ever owned Noooooooooo Could always buy a nice SAAB96 instead |

Just teach her how to double de-clutch Zag! There should be no problem going UP the gears anyway, it should pretty much fall in from 2nd to 3rd with a gentle push - if not, maybe get the box looked at. DDC is only really needed coming down the gears. I had a mate teach me in a car park one quiet afternoon, took me 10 minutes to get to grips with it and have been doing it ever since.
I'd second the notion of a beetle. However my cousin has just bought what he calls a 'VW UP" which he says is a small 4 seater which gets 65+mpg on petrol. Leeds to London and back for £30... |

if you just want cheap reliable transport and your wife is going to be the only occupant most of the time you could do worse than a toyota Aygo/peugeot 107, Citroen C1 (same car different badges)
Mine is really a disposable commuter tool by now but in 4 years and 120k miles it has been 100% reliable. I get 55 mpg and I mercilessly thrash it every day on really badly surfaced roads. For a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder motor it really flies and costs buttons to run. OK its a tiny thing but it'll take the wife + kids if needs be. I thought about changing it but why ? Might as well keep it til it dies as any car I use to go to work in ends up covered in coffee, fag ash etc Its also very comfortable. I hate it but love it as well if you know what I mean |

Mrs S's A2 is a special edition diesel with all the toys 03 plate in Jaipur red, we paid £2,800 for it six months ago, although did feel we got a bargain at the time as the car has very low mileage and is mint. So yes you can get them for less than £3k and they hold their value very well. Jason. |

Smoking & coffee after all the good stuff you put into your 110 Rossy Yeah the Aygo is meant to be a good car quite fancy one but think it will be too small for the wife & kids, will look into it though!

Sorry to all in advance for this mini-hijack but there aren't enough pictures on this thread Jasong - So yours has the facelift? OpenSky too? Here's mine: Click image to enlarge Surely Mrs Zag would love one of these - it's nice and clean (hijack over) Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

My mrs works 1 mile away, but drives....
she has a full bike licence so could ride my scooter, but drives..... we have a couple of mountain bikes, but she drives.... she has two perfectly good legs (that dont open enough), but she drives...... she drives..... me up the f**kin' wall!! Toyotas/audis are good and reliable and hold their value well, ford/ vauxhalls are cheap to repair - but your not that likely to have serious issues ffs.. they're not Land Rovers!! 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top Beer 'n Sex 'n Chips 'n Gravy |
