be pushy try it on, some dealers do price matching so get a price of halfords etc to quote when you ask for a quote, there is also a web site that compares deals from all the approved LR dealers (however couldnt just find it). finally if you brought it from the dealer you want it serviced at ask the salesman whom sold it to you to have a word on your behalf, it may win him some favour if you buy another one in the future. Sounds expensive. I paid 506 inc VAT at Westover Christchurch LR last month for my 24000 mile service 110 XS MY10 11000 miles. That included them collecting and returning the vehicle (45 miles away) and leaving me a brand new XS Utility as a loaner. Can't fault the service there. They did all my required warranty jobs too.

Mynstral - have you tried Gratech at Maldon? I haven't used them yet myself but they seem pretty helpful when I went in to see what they were like.

About 500 should be the target price.
I paid 650 Euros in Germany..... about 550 of your British pounds......... Deffo worth a shop around to find a better price. Glyn   |

I paid just over 400 last year for 24k service at Lakeland Land Rover at Torvor last year, and I thought that was expensive. My current Defender is due it's 24k service soon

Maybe total madness, but i've not had my 12 month service done. It came down to a simple lack of value for money, you could argue that it's an insurance policy, however over 300 quid for a simple oil change and quick once over didn't appeal to me!
The money has been spent on a full DIY service plus a top up of the rust proofing, leaving over 200.00 quid spare. The car did develop a grinding noise on overun, before the 12 month point and the dealers were unable to fix it. Greased the propshafts and sorted! Hopefully nothing will go wrong over the next 2 years, but if it does I will have probably saved about 1100 quid over 3 years to help cover it. |

Exactly. If you're saving hundreds of pounds each year on labour costs for someone at the local dealer to undo some bolts and pour some fluids then even if your Land Rover is worth a couple of grand less when you come to sell it I doubt you'd be out of pocket much! Personally I'd rather buy a vehicle from someone who's done their own servicing (and can back that up with receipts for filters/fluids etc.) than from someone who entrusts it to someone else. But I realise that most people's view would differ. |
