Gearbox problem at 12k miles
Well, parked up the other night after 400 mile trip, went to move it the following morning, andit was stuck in gear.

dealer came and recovered and says its in 1st and 2nd at the same time and the selector mechanism is broken.

gota love landrovers, after all the years you would think they could make a gearbox thats a bit more reliable

just out of interest did you park it in neutral or in gear?

the reason i ask is that i find the transmission tunnel area gets very warm on a long journey and i just wonder if heat expanded metal is a factor in a lot of these problems?

If your gearbox seems to get excessively hot, it might be worth checking that it is not overfilled with oil. There have been several very interesting recent posts on this subject, and it seems that a lot of Pumas have left the factory or dealer with far too much oil in the box. For reasons which are not clear (at least not to me) this seems to cause excessive heat build-up in the box.

We did 400 mile trip on last Thursday, all was fine. towed my jetski approx 20 miles on sunday, parked in the drive, washed the car, then moved it up the drive about 2 hrs later, all appeared ok. came to move it Monday eve, and was stuck in gear... very odd.
since spoken to the dealer who mumbled something about plastic parts in the seletcor mechanism and it was 5 hrs to fix.
still they are replacing all the mudflaps again, 4th time lucky??? Rolling Eyes

Always leave it parked in 1st gear, our driveway is on a hill, never been over trusting of the handbrake, i have heard of them rolling away as the transmission brake drum cools down...

Interesting. Recently I experienced, when I parked my puma 110 high cap on a fairly sloped surface with hand break on + gear at 1st position, went away and suddenly noticed the vehicle was moving reverse in a sequence. I was terrified and got back to vehicle quickly to stop it. Has any body experienced simillar story?
