I could feel my ears burning - so though I'd register and answer some of the questions raised here!
Although they don't entirely stop the seatbelt being damaged when it gets trapped in the latch - it doesn't get caught so often and when it does it suffers less damage as there are fewer sharp edges. I have another simple solution to the seat belt damage issue and that is just to attach a plastic rectangle to the belt where it would get trapped. The door bounces off the plastic and doesn't trap the belt. It also seems to help stop it getting trapped. I cut one out of a piece of HDPE sheet I had lying around. Can you use it as a bottle opener? Yes! That was a design requirement! Proof here: http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/259/3yso.mp4 Someone suggested just sanding the edge off the original catch to smooth out the hook. Although this works, and it's what I originally tried, it weakens the catch to the extent that one day it let go when I leaned on the door! It was one of the motivations for trying to do it properly! Lastly, I agree that re-aligning the catch can be tricky. What I've done in the past is to draw round the riser block with a marker then when you fit the new one, it's easy to get it in exactly the same location. Someone mentioned about spraying WD40 into the lock if the door doesn't close properly. This is an excellent thing to do - and one of the 'tricks of the trade'! Most door closure problems that are blamed on latch alignment are in fact just the lock mechanism getting sticky. If you take it to a dealer to 'fix' it, chances are they will just cover it in WD40 then spray grease. I'll do my best to make a positive contribution here even though I only have a Defender 1.5 (A late Td5 is well on the way to a Puma). Sadly, I just don't fit in Puma's - and my wife looked dismayed when I suggested buying one and taking a Jig-saw to the Dash to fit my knees in! Si |

Plenty of TD5 owners here
Ok, 75% success rate. Both front doors fitted without issue. Rear drivers side door fitted too, although I noted that the mounting block had two alloy shims underneath. No shims on the rear passenger side though and because the new catch is slightly thinner than the original, i.e. the post is shorter, the door wouldn't close over it. I'll have to source (or make) some shims before I can fit the last one. Before and after: Observations: The sound that the door makes when closing changes slightly, although not unpleasantly. The existing catches have various nicks and marks on the inboard parts of the 'loop' whereas the new ones have longer loops so there's less chance of contact. All in all, very pleased Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I think both have plus and minus points - the one thing I would really like is air vents that blow where you want them. But I dare say I could knock something up one day When I have a spare afternoon. I had to make the pin 1.5mm shorter so that the domed end of the bolt would fit. It was a compromise - but a necessary one. I plan on ordering shims and supplying a couple with the X-Trousers just in case. You can loosen the hinge bolts and move the door a couple of mm - but I guess that's a whole other can of worms! Si |

I could...but I think I'll just use shims on the catch Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Martin, I had read the rules and thought what I had posted fell under the term: "Your post is an entirely informational reply to a request or question posted by a site member who is not associated with your company. " It's not my intention to promote said company - but I appreciate that even in answering questions it's a fine line. Si |
