Hi Brian,
I can find no numbers on the fuses (8 conventional & some mega fuses, but I've checked them all plus the floating one on the brown with orange trace wire and all are OK. Is it advisable to open the window before throwing the blue brick or does the sound of breaking glass have therapeutic effect? Best regards Keith |

Hi Brian,
Yes they're both fine as well. I'm a firm believer that when it comes to electronics it must be me doing something wrong as people far more intelligent than I have designed, built and tested them. I am now starting to wonder did I get the apprentice practice piece? I'd hoped to get it driving to take to Ian at IRB tomorrow, looks like it'll be on the end of a rope & if SWMBO finds out what I've spent, the car might not be the only thing on the end of a rope....... Thanks again Keith |

If those fuses are OK? Disconnect the Black earth lead from the battery and press the brake pedal a couple of times to discharge any stored capacitance. (I don't like the idea of touching both battery terminals together to do this reset.) Leave it disconnected for 10 mins then reconnect. Plug in the MSV and try it again in stand alone mode. I see an RMA has been issued from BBS and I personally would try to ensure the vehicle was not at fault first before sending the tool off.

That kinda worked, I think.
Did as you advised and it started working in stand alone mode. Under HCAN instrument pack it has 2 DTC and 4 NTDTC The 2 DTCs are U0100 perm & 00401 H It also says lost communication with engine control module control A bus signal/message failure - missing a message :- permanent. There is a section if I scroll down that lists flash programming, then it says the program I require is not listed on this server? So do I assume there is a hard wiring fault on the truck, or possible ecu fault? Or it could be me, or a faulty lead still or a combination of all 3!!!!! Thanks again. |

Brian,
Just for info the date on the ecu is July 08, so its not original to the car, everything else is nov 2007 & it was registered in Spain Feb 08 I think. I'm going to try with the PC attached again, do a 10 minute earth off and see what happens. Keith |

Well that didn't work either, I reloaded the file that Pete kindly pasted on the BBS forum to make sure it was a good 'clean' copy, and it started to load, got to a certain point and fell over again, exactly as before.
There is probably something simple at fault (besides me) but the intermittent faults on the MSV are still worrying me. (VSE006) etc. As it now appears to be talking to the lappy, I'll work through your original list. Keith |

Keith,
save the DTC's and do a dtc clear. Switch off the ignition and unplug the MSV. Now re plug it in and switch on the ignition and redo the DTC scan in the IPAC. Is U0100 and U0401 still logged? Also was it U0401 or U0040 01 that was logged? U0100 Lost Communication With ECM / PCM A U0401 Invalid Data Received from ECM/PCM A U0040 01 Vehicle Communication Bus "B" (+) Low? U0100 logged in the IC tells me that the ECM has either been unplugged or has been flashed. This DTC appears after using a flash tool like the remap interface or if upgrading the EMS software. As the EMS is being flashed the IPAC loses comms with the EMS. This tells me that the MSV has at least tried to flash the EMS. U0401 logged in the IC tells me that there is no comms between the IPAC and the EMS, so the flash did not finish otherwise they would be communicating over the CAN network. U0040 01 logged is a low power issue over the CANBUS and it would stop the flashing of the EMS. Did you try to access the EMS in stand alone mode? Anything listed in the info pages? I am still leaning to think it is a power issue when flashing the new files! Though a faulty ECU is looking more likely to be the issue if it is not power related. Brian. |

Keith,
which laptop are you using to flash the PCM, XP or Windows 7? |

Hi Brian,
I'm using Windows 7, I had all interior lights etc off, a brand new 800amp battery, trickle charged the night before, linked with jump leads to the original battery again fully charged, minimum voltage was 12.62 measured with a decent multimeter. I'll go back outside and check the other points, but I'm starting to think it may be a combination of things including the most dangerous element in a car - the nut behind the wheel! Keith |

Windows 7 is not fully supported by BBS. Can you try the flash with your XP laptop?
I use a windows 7 netbook for DTC's etc, but use the XP laptop for changing settings and re flashing as that is the operating system BBS coding has been built on. Brian. |

Keith,
also make sure that the WIFI is switched off, disable anti virus and any resident shield programs. Use task manager to shut down any not needed programs processes that may be running in the background. I have sent you a pm as I have to go to work now. ![]() Brian. |

Keith was halfway there.... he had managed to get it running. I did the update to the very latest calibration, injector learn, injector pump learn etc etc using the proper dealer SDD tool and all good. Ian |
