Well,
Yes if the water is hot enough it will crack the windscreen, but I don't think they could get the water hot enough for that. You do have to be careful of what water you use as heating water and then breathing in the steam is how legionella is contracted! And no if the water bottle is frozen it probably won't work Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

All good points to be considered.
My antifreeze-wash goes down to -20 so the system won't freeze. My problem is that Autobahn driving is disgusting in bad weather and the wash is constantly being used. Moreover, the wind-chill makes the wash very "goopy", so warming it a bit might make a big difference. bpman - your system sounds better but I'm not that technical Worth thinking about though before buying... Incidentally, if I do go for the Heat Shot, once the live is through the top of the bulkhead, what's the neatest route to the battery? The Heatshot was added to GM cars in the USA not too long ago. There were recalls due to the units and fires. GM basically put the company making them out of business by suing for the cost of those recalls. I think fuses were externally added to get over the issue. Now it looks the same units are being sold in the UK through distributors from another company who bought the rights to the product. I personally wouldn't install them unless I knew for sure those fire issues from the USA were solved through some type of design change.
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/11...ns-deeper/ I haven't personally installed a set, but being as the history may not be known on this side of the pond, I figured I should at least put it out there for you guys to have all the info. |

I often wondered if the element out of a 12v travel kettle would work if sealed into the washer bottle. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

that's a good idea... also there was a mod to use peugeot spray blades on the wipers to spray the water. i guess you need to think about all the points of failure for washer jets, what extremes you are going to use them in and design something. RR heated nozzles sounds like a good starting point, pop them into the bonnet and loose the stupid LR standard washers, a heating type element with a cut out (you need is warm not boiling) that is switchable. time for a think ... maybe DG will see this too... if Olaf (entreq) sees it, expect something shiney and expensive |

The antifreeze in washer fluid is usually methanol.
The heat generated under the bonnet (especially after the engine is turned off) will evaporate it from the washer fluid. After a while it doesn't work any more. |
