 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Epsom Green
trailer wiring harness
Hi.

Does any one know what the spare wires are for that are connected together beside the plug which connects into the wiring loom behind the rear right lights? Michael

Off the top of my head, have you a 7pin 12N socket fitted and therefore the extras could be wires ready to attach a 13pin socket instead adding reversing lights etc to the trailer set up.

Hi. JWL

I've got an OEM 13pin harness which I just fitted. I removed and replaced the 7pin one which was badly corroded at the socket. The 7 Pin one also had spare unused connectors which I thought would be for the reverse lights. Can't seem to find any information about them. Michael

The 7pin doesn't have reversing lights included as a rule, the 12S plug(the second one you find with a caravan type set up) is the one that caters for the reversing light.

Possibly ABS?
As to the spare ones behind the O/S panel in the back body, the black with blue trace and black with green trace are for rear speakers, the (thicker) black and purple wires terminated in a 2 pin socket are for "accessories". That's on my 2008 90.

Hi 50H

Speaker wires that is intresting looks like a new project for me Very Happy . You wouldnt know if they are connected into the radio already or if not where the other ends of them are?

That power cable for accessories could be handy for connecting up a light for the back Idea as at night when you open the back door I can't see a thing.

If they're the same as Td5 speaker wires (twin cores twisted together, I forget the colours but orange and green spring to mind) then they terminate under the bonnet, near where the inertia cut out switch is, (on Td5 anyway) slightly below it.

have a look at this, kindly provided by DGARDEL:

and download the complete electrical connector manual 2007 on.
It is a time consuming document to search, the listings of connectors and their purposes at the beginning of the document is a good place to start and pages 133, 164, 211, 294 and 300 refer to your question and you will find a few illustrations to help you.

As yet I haven't found a complete electrical schematic for a RHD 2007 on......

IIRC the permanent live that runs up to the rear on the offside is routed via the trailer harness connector. If you fit a 12S socket this is taken into the 12S loom (but not, of course the 12N loom). Have a look at the fitting instructions for the 12S socket (available online) - it may provide an answer.

Hi

The caravan I rented is not working properly...when conected to 220v it works fine...when conected to my 110 the inside lights and stuff don't work, wich seems to indicate that the 12v feed is not conected...because the outside lights are fine (indicators, stop, etc)

My questions:

- On a 7 pin socket in wich pin exactly should the permanent 12v feed be available?

-On a 110 where is located the the wiring harness? Behind the right wheel, left wheel, the 12V feed is in both sides, just one?

Sometimes there is a switch inside the caravan(pretty sure there was on mine) which switches the electrical supply over from 240v to 12v. Mine had a rocker switch stating something like .....Car/Off/Mains.


This might help.

It might be that a battery has to be connected in the locker on the caravan, if it's there at all!

I'm afraid there isn't a permanent live on a standard 12N (black) socket:



You need a grey 12S socket for permanent live and things like fridge operation and battery charging. Darren

Have you got the 2 seven pin sockets? i.e. the 12N and 12S, the N one has a black cover and the S has a grey cover, you can't swop the plugs between each as they have a different pin configuration. The N set up is just for running lights, indicators, tail lights etc and it's the S one that provides power to the internal systems in the caravan, along with reversing lights if present. To chuck a spanner in the works, around 2000 there was a standard set for all to follow so set-ups prior to then were different.
So in short if you haven't got the S plug fitted then you aren't going to get any power to the caravan.

Oh boy....Three days away from leaving it's when I find this out! Banging Head

I have a black socket with a black cover (12N?)!

I believe I can find a socket with a grey cover. I've seen them somewhere for sale not far from where I live...Just can't remember where right now...

But the one with a grey cover it's a seven pin socket anyway? So if find one, buy it, and I take it to an electrician he will be able to fit it, assuming there's a permanent 12V feed somewhere in the back of the 110?

Do you have a similar scheme for a 12S socket like the one above? Regards
