Mine's been doing similar (been 30+ degrees here). I had an engine blanket which I've now removed. My engine coolant was low. I've also cleaned the MAF with some canned air. Hasn't happened since.
I think it may be one or more of: 1) heat building up at the head CHT sensor - thanks to Lorryman100 - see: http://www.defender2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=144571#144571 2) Grubby MAF 3) Stuck EGR (unlikely as your remap probably keeps it closed) 4) Do you have a RAI? Restriction of air flow in hot weather plus 1) - 3) Let us know if you get an answer Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. When it loses power going uphill does the engine sound laboured? Or does it just level off at 3000 revs and fails to deliver the power?
As others have said check the coolant level is ok and the radiator is not obstructed. Also can you hear the viscous fan when the power loss happens? If the engine is overheating then the viscous should be roaring due to the high coolant temp. Feels more like a Boost issue to me and I would be checking the Turbo actuator control bar is moving freely and not binding. The electronic sensor for Boost is the MAP sensor mounted on the inlet manifold and if this is faulty you will lose active boost so it is worth giving it a clean as are the plug connections with an electrical contact cleaner. Map Sensor Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Turbo actuator control bar. Check that it can move and it should feel quite loose at the actuator arm and at the vane control arm. Click image to enlarge It is very hard to help with these kinds of issues as the vehicle is not in front of us, but the more info you can supply the better the chances are that someone on here can help you. This happened to a friend of My'n. Traveling up from Durban to Pretoria. It ended up being an overheated engine = head gasket sprung a leak. Had to be redone.

When the head gasket goes you can usually see where it is leaking from. Other symptoms are, coolant dilution of the engine oil is indicated by a mayonnaise appearance of the oil and coolant mixture as seen on the dipstick. You can also get oil mixed in with the coolant as well. There ill be a loss in performance due to poor compression. There are several tests you can do including a compression test and a leakdown test with compressed air. The list of symptoms for poor compression is pretty high but they can also apply to other issues like, incorrect valve clearance, sticking valves, worn or broken valve springs as well as a blown head gasket. You may also get blue/white smoke in the exhaust but worn valve stems and guides can also be to blame. Best way to check is to look under the bonnet and follow the head gasket all the way around the block and look for any leakage.
