Defender for a numpty
Went to look at two 60 plate XS Defenders in silver today at a Stratstone dealership. Very good price but was appalled to find spots of rust on the bumpers of each of them and when I went inside the dealership there were rust spots on the showroom brand new model!

Am putting the pennies away for a Defender asap. I have read the anti-corrosion blueprint on this forum but...what would the experts on this forum recommend for a DIY numpty such as myself?

I ideally would want to check over a new/used Defender first, then arrange for it to have the full treatment immediately.

So,.....what would this cost be, since I intend to have the Defender as long as I will have my S2A? Where could this be done? 1970 Series 2A 88"

I had my S2A waxoyled for this. I was thinking about Zagato's recommendations for Dinitrol, talcum powdering its bottom carefully, etc. etc. as well. 1970 Series 2A 88"

Luke you can't do much better than getting under it with a paint brush and a pot of POR-15, it will be done for life apart from cavity top ups. The Dinitrol kit has everything as you know as well as a can of rust converter to sort any existing spots, it's mucky but not hard to do Thumbs Up

Anti-Corrosion protection seems to be from 250 - 800 Main thing is to not take it to someone who cleans and treats in a days it takes 24hrs with hot blower to 5 days drying naturally for the inside of a chassis Shocked

Good luck hunting for a nice one, I'm afraid all I see are corroded ones on forecourts Sad Nothing a can of ACF-50 and Dinitrol won't sort out though Wink

Thumbs Up

Thanks, Zagato. Next job is to learn which end of a paintbrush to hold.

Will also be worth pointing out areas of corrosion to LR dealers when it comes to that time, might be a bargaining point! Whistle 1970 Series 2A 88"

You need to do the inside of the chassis as well as the outside.
Remove all internal side panels and treat inside and outside of body and door frames.
Best done by a professional.

Sounds good to me...especially if I can negotiate a discount for a rusty new car. Mr. Green 1970 Series 2A 88"

Or you could go to one of the plethora of custom builders, and have a new Defender built to your spec, based on a Galvanized chasis from new Exclamation
