Wading, not sure how much this has to do with electrics really.
A bit off topic - my house was pretty badly flooded in 2007, over 5 ft of water. The following morning i went to have a look inside and there was still over 4 feet of water. I walked past the electric meter which was underwater and I noticed the bedroom light was still on! So water doesn't always short stuff out, it has to be the path of least resistance. Pom |

The breathers are very short, hence the need to extend them
MK I didn't realise you could do that? What's the procedure? |

Mine were cut off short on my 90, so I bought a complete kit on eblag from Wizardbilt.com and routed them all up into a manifold in the engine bay, and from there a master breather up alongside the snorkel . A nice neat solution, I know I could probably have done it cheaper by getting odd parts from various sources but worked for me (and I got a free sticker!) Having said that I haven't ever been deep enough to test it but certainly better than the 6" bits that were left cut off by the previous owner. My factory fit ones (arrowed below) are effectively at wing top height. Surely this must be deep enough for all but budding submariners!

Yes, but if you have a snorkel and plan on using it to its fullest ability, it makes sense to elevate the breathers too. Of course some people fit snorkels/RAIs for keeping dust out, in which case there's no need to touch the breathers.
I'm with BigMike, really don't see the obsession with wading unless it's absolutely necessary to get somewhere. Once drove into a stream in my old (petrol) 110 that was a LOT deeper than it looked - fortunately flooring it pulled me out the other side, but it could easily have been goodbye engine. The one time the wading depth has been really useful was on a flooded A-road where the queue of cars following me slowly thinned out until there was no-one left, they all drowned their electrics... ![]() |

Snorkel definitely useful for dusty environments. Add a whizzy filter top and you only need to check your filter every couple of days. However, if your adventure is going down to your local retail park, you WILL get some funny looks
