Just a tought...
Maybe the problem is not the clurch that serves in this case as a fuse. I have mine changed for the new one for around 100,000 km without any trouble. Cheers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I have an 08 and no problems touch wood. Is it an inherent problem with the 08 batch? ===================================

The new type clutches didn't come in until later Haven't got the part number now but someone will have it, plenty on the forum about old clutches being swapped out for new ones and how much of an improvement the driving experience is!

I had the clutch replaced on my '09 which has a VIN after the recall/bulletin so I don't think it confined to 07/08 vehicles.

I drive an 07 Transit flatbed for work, and its is absolutely ragged to within an inch of its life alot of the time. Mostly towing and lots of heavy loads, now I know I havent got a Puma but if I drove my TD5 the same way and expected the same out of it as the Transit it wouldnt last five minutes 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top

If your talking about an excessively loud clunk when changing gear then there is a clutch modification kit that the dealers have. I had one fitted free of charge on my 2007 Puma but there wasn't a recall at that time, you had to complain before they would reveal that they knew of the fault and had a rectification kit available.

Clunks when changing gear can be caused by many things on a Puma!
The fault you are probably referring to is the disintegration of the clutch driven plate - the springs compress and wear, and if left long enough will fall out causing collateral damage. The best test of this is to put the vehicle in neutral with the clutch in (ie foot off pedal) then switch off the engine. If you have this problem there will be a series of rattles from the clutch area as the engine stops. If it does this, get a new clutch fitted sooner rather than later. The "new" driven plates shouldn't experience this problem, but there is some uncertainty; either there are some new clutches which do still do this, or there are dealers still fitting old clutches. Just about any other source of excess backlash in the drivetrain will also result in clunks and snatches when changing gear. On my 2007 110, I have had these caused by excessive backalsh in the rear axle halfshaft and drive member flanges, and from a front diff that was breaking up. Both caused very similar unpleasantness in the gear change. So if you have a crappy gearshift, do not immediately assume that it is the clutch or gearbox! Having now had a new clutch (new type) fitted, new rear halfshafts and drive members, and a new front diff, I can honestly say that the driveline and gearchange on my Puma is far, far better and nicer to drive than any other Landrover I have ever driven. The box and shift is much smoother and nicer than the R380 box on my TD5 Disco 2 ever has been, and (at risk of causing controversy) I reckon that the GFT MT82 is a much better box than the very crude R380. |

I have a 10 plate and it's on it's second clutch. It feels like its started slipping to. This is the first land rover I've had to change the clutch.
This has to be my worse one for gearbox problems. Shame because the sixth gear makes cruising much better. The gearbox is one of the main reasons for ditching it and heading back to R380 for work and a nice auto for best |

Since these all seem to be still under warranty this question is probably premature, but is there an uprated clutch for the pumas that might help after the three years?
