Mag-mounts work fine without earthing, so it's obviously not essential. ![]() |

mag mount to where? is the roof steel on them?
just seen thunder pole do an additional earth lead which would suggest you can run a separate earth for them i guess. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I use a Artificial Ground Plane attached to my roof rack The unit simulates a connection to ground, so you do not have to worry about your metal to metal earthing. This cured the SWR problems I had which was down to poor earthing and is also a good way of helping to reduce interference as it allows the aerial to be completely isolated from the vehicle.

I was merely using Mag-mounts as an example of an earthless aerial, not suggesting you try to use one. ![]() |

here
http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f293/how-insta...ing-28789/ On a defender you're pretty much stuffed apart from the above if you dont want to rack/ladder/gutter mount or dont want to drill. The link isn't a bad solution actually. I had this on my last 90. Yes you do have to drill but it's neat and unobtrusive when the aerial is removed. Easy to fit too. http://www.land-rover-blog.co.uk/how-to-in...-defender/ |

Not sure if it is possible on the Puma but IIRC it has a very similar rear wheel mount to the Discovery now. On myh old Disco I used some flat bar and mounted it to the same studs that hold the wheel carrier to the doorat the place where the top of the bar clears the top of the spare wheel I put a 90 degree return on the flat bar and mounted the aerial to that. hmm You will need to drill a hole into the door though I remember so unless there is a blanked grommet already then scrub that one!

Years ago I had an Ifor Williams top on a 110 and used to put a magnetic base flashing light on the top when escorting farm machinery. To make it stick I had glued another magnetic base on the underside of the Ifor so that the 2 magnets would be attracted to each other. No reason not to stick one above the headlining on the underside of the roof.

In my experience gutter mounts work fine on a Defender hardtop, just make sure the grub screws bite through the sealant & paintwork into the steel gutter below. Steve.

No need. Earth the set inside the vehicle instead. ![]() |
