Rain is getting in.
It rained all day today and I went out to check out whether the weather was getting into my (newly purchased) 50th. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry The passenger footwell was wet, half of passenger seat cover was damp. Water was dripping from where the roof-lining meets the inner hard black rubber roll attached to the door aperture, about 2 inches from the leading end of the door. It wasn't coming in through door via the soft rubber seal on the doorframe - it was definitely coming in where the roof-lining meets the top of the door. I stuck the pointed end of a zip-tie in to "wick" the water away into a small bucket and collect about a cup full. I moved the car and got a small gush from the same place as the water shifted up in the roof. Some came down the driver's side from the corresponding point. It's got a sunroof. Is that the smoking gun? Cant feel any water/dampness in the rooflinign around it though.

Can anyone give me advice on next steps?
Thanks in advance.
cheers
rob

The sunroofs are not sealed from new so that is your first point of call then check the roof seam and carry on from their working through the Defender Water Ingress guide - Google it Thumbs Up

Stop being so horrid boys !

Gilmore I am as wet behind the ears as any newcomer to this vehicle can be. Mine is 6 months old. It leaks from the windscreen rubber. It leaks from the foam strip at the front. It leaks from the offside strip at the back and it leaks from a gap in the floor under the rear seat base where it wasn't alligned properly in the factory. I have to park it facing slightly nose down leaning to the left where possible and the leaks kind of stop then !

I know exactly how to fix it but need a couple of dry days in succession and that has not occurred here since I bought it ! I booked it into the dealer 60 miles away but chickened out because I didn't want them mashing up my smooth clunk free gearbox and transmission and I couldn't bear to be without it for a few days for a job that I'm sure I can do better myself.

There's a water ingress manual on this forum somewhere. I think Zag posted it. Its jolly useful but if you have a good look with a torch you can find water ingress points pretty easily.

I am amazed that any of them don't leak to be honest when you see how they are designed and assembled ! Laughing

Rob, once you have downloaded the ingress manual, you'll need some dumdum filler, if you find some (anywhere - buy it, keep it and don't sell it to anyone) they've stopped making it ...

whilst working on your leaks (plural - yes it's a land rover) don't be afraid of taking the headlining out, it's quite robust)

took me 18 months to find the leak, i was in "head-lining-removal-denial" for 17 months Rolling with laughter

Try putting duck tape (waterproof Thumbs Up) around the possible areas so you can find out where the leak/s are coming from - worked for me (top of windscreen rubber taking in water off the roof). Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Hey Rob, I'm in the same situation with my TD5 90. It leaks in exactly the same point on both sides. I also have a leak at the back somewhere, as this morning the carpets in the back were wet.

I am not worrying about it just yet, its too cold and damp to fix anything. When it get warmer, I am going to strip out the head liner, rear seats, and side trims to pin point the leak areas.

Betsy is 47 years old, and has a rag top, and does not leak at all, so there's progress for ya Laughing 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV
