Of course a tune will stand out a mile on a test drive!
Those with BAS boxes, ATRIC etc, that put their cars back to original tune before taking it into a dealer, can not clear all traces of tampering, so a switched on mechanic can know what to look for. |

When mine was test driven by a maindealer during a service, I was told it was the quietest, smoothest zippiest one they had ever driven. Even admired how good it was for overtaking. No remaps just good old 2 stroke.
Not saying that 2 stroke can compare with a remap just that a decent mechanic does notice things (but I admit that they are few and far between at maindealers!). 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

But this sort of thing could be interpreted as the result of an innocent session on a non-IDS/SDD diagnostic system? |

Bit of the opposite happened to me, when I took my TD5 to J+E a few years ago they found that it hadn't been upgraded or checked since it left the factory in the 7 years it had been with the Police serviced at the local dealers for all the major services.

This is the first I have heard that these remaps might put a warranty claim in jeopardy!
Perhaps I was being naive when I read statements like the tuning can be put 100% back to standard. I now realise that the tune may return to standard but the fact that you have applied a tune can be traced and I assume that if by happy coincidence it seemed to happen just before every visit to the dealer, then a savvy dealer may have grounds to refuse a warranty claim for engine or any drivetrain issues. |

I have a scangauge, and I use cable ties round the OBDII plug, and tell the stealers that I am logging performance / fuel consumption data, and they should not unplug it.. Works for me!

Okay, to prove my point, here are some results I gathered from some tests done this morning.
Click image to enlarge During engine management reprogramming, the PCM disappears from view of other control systems fitted to the car. The example here shows the temp gauge at its highest mark, which is the Instrument pack's way of saying, where has the engine gone? It's not talking to me any more, and I don't know what to display. Click image to enlarge This is what is logged in the defender instrument pack, after any read/write procedure to the engine management system with a tuning tool. Using a scangauge, Nanocom, etc will not cause this fault code to log, as they do not make the engine management disappear. Click image to enlarge This screen shot was taken after reprogramming the engine management with a software update, using Autologic. This is how it should be, but unless you have Autologic, Faultmate, IDS, or Nanocom, any reprogramming of the engine management will leave a clue to show that someone has been tinkering with your car. |

What if you have an Autologic map? Same result I guess, still detectable? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

No, An Autologic remap would clear all codes down after its programming procedure. Or at least I expect it would, as it does the the standard tune files. No way am I paying for a credit to try an Autologic map though! I already have a load on file!

Interesting about the temp gauge going up to max. One of the reasons for it being in the dealers is i had a problem about three weeks ago on the M25 when the motor cut out three time then for some reason once i had slowed to about 20-30mph it ran as normal. Now on the third time I noticed the temp gauge rise to the top and then return. Much like it does when you down load a tune into it.

Interesting! I have had an Autologic map for some considerable time (nearly 3 years I think). The only hassle I had was when Land Rover bought out the Q068 upgrade and installed it whilst the vehicle was in for something totally different. I then lost the map and it took Autologic about 3 months to overcome the incompatability issue. Hinsight is a wonderful thing and despite being happy with my map (especially the hospitality shown to me by Autologic on visiting their HQ to get it sorted) a switchable one would have been preferred if I could wind the clock back! The "lost communications fault" code can also come after a flat or even flat ish battery as the pcm can boot later than the ipac causing the ipac to think its missing from the loop, just as they do on the D3 RRS and many other landrovers. Seeing this fault code in the ipac is no worry for landrover as its common as mustard and will infact generally clear its self after a certian number key cycles.
