For me..it was:
1. Rustproofing (as per Zag's guide) 2. Noisekiller 3. Early Life Oils Change 4. Bumperettes 5. CheckTemp II guage Also: Tow bracket Rear Mud Flap Re-enforcement (she's a 110) - actually I think this was more improtant than the CheckTemp...so maybe should change places in my list) Mats & loadspace protection Roof bars (for kayak carrying) side steps (not standard on the County, and MrsK is 5'2") Next (bought but not fitted) Stainless bits headlight bulb upgrade Sometime soonish: Spotlights maybe a bit of tasteful checkerplate possible suspension upgrade to aleviate the slightly choppy ride when unladen Wish list Cruise control New front seats - leather with heaters Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Out of the list you can see in my signature profile, I would immediately repeat these here which I consider the most important, and in this order.
1. Black lacquered rear cross member. If not done fast, it will invariably get dull/deteriorated. 2. Full set of stainless steel fasteners. The standard ones will rust at some time,... let's say ex showroom 3. A high quality rear wheel carrier, in my case a Aussie Kaymar, which now after 3 years remains absolutely perfect. 4. A good set of front fog lights, Hella in my case, which in combo with my SVX front lights leave nothing further to be desired really. (Except mayby the JWSpeaker LED's once I get the Swiss authorities to approve them 5. Startech replacement steering wheel, a dream in comfort and looks versus the large standard rim. And then..... I normally would have added as one of the most important ones a set of SVX Recaro's,.... but for some reason they came as standard on my Def And last but not least,.... the NEXT modification will be a full Dinitrol rust protection treatment this spring. I first need to find a Dinitrol center somewhere in a neighbouring country which knows how to do a full Defender treatment. Not so easy as in the UK, where you have real LR specialists for that. Much less common here. And why not have it done locally in Switzerland here?... Undoubtedly would cost an arm and a leg. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

1) Corrosion - underseal + anti-corrosion (thanks Zagato)
2) Vision - crystal headlights + Nightbreaker bulbs, Hella driving lights 3) Seats - lifted seat rails and cubby with seat and lumbar supports (so comfy now on long trips) 4) Wheels - Dotz Dakar wheels and Discoverer tyres + steering stop adjustment 5) LR stupid design - mudflap supports, seal windscreen (really need chequerplate on bonnet for this ) Loads of other stuff too like Alive remap, parking sensor, glovebox, noisekiller, cupholder, snowcover etc. but the top 5 "areas" are, in my opinion, essential. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
