Replacing a wing mirror

I need to replace a wing mirror. The entire mirror and arm broke off in a low speed roll on black ice. It's about the only damage apart from a few minor dents

I will order the morror and arm from one of th usual supects but can anyone tell me if there is anything else I need.

Also any advice on what tools I need would be apprecaited as I do not have the Land Rover with me.

You have to undo the hinge bolts to remove / refit the mirror.
A new mirror comes complete with arm and glass, you will just need the two screws which hold it on if you no longer have them or the threads are knacked.

Its not a hard job.

Don’t forget to support the door when you take out the hinge bolts, or the door will drop. Put an jack under it, or similar, and give it a bit of lift when putting the bolts back. Or get the wife to hold it up ( oh you’re naughty!).

You were lucky, Defenders don't usually like being rolled

I remember doing this on my Series 3.

You simply buy a new wing mirror complete (cheap)

Unscrew the top hinge bolts that hold it to the bulkhead. The wing mirror screws in from the back of the hinge. 2016 D4 HSE

I replace my mirrors for extended ones one year ago and is very easy (1 hr or less of work).
Maybe the more complicated task is take out the door trim panel.

1.- Take out the door trim panel to have access to the hinge nuts.
Take out first the screw located at the door latch to take out the plastic cover behind the latchcover, then the plastic piece that cover the lock and carefully with a screw driver release all the plastic screws that attahch the trim to the door.

2.- Take out the bolts an nut and be carerefully to support the door

3.- Install the mirror assy.

4.- Put the door trim panel again

Thanks everyone, sounds simple enough. I have done it before on my Series 2 but that was easy as there's no trim panel and the hinge is held by a Philips screw on the outside and a 7/16th nut on the inside.

Zagato, you asked about the roll on black ice. It was on a country lane and my son was driving. he said he was going slowly. Anyway the nearside hit the bank and it bounced back and rolled onto the drivers side. He climbed out of the passenger window. Good job it has wind up windows I guess.

It's now a cat D writeoff and Aviva were fast, fair and good to deal with. I was very impressed.
