I don't think you'd find the finish would last to be honest. No Guts, No Glory.

and it's difficult to get the shade right. Most tinted lights i've seen either end up so light there's little point. Or they're so dark you can't see them in the daytime.

I would definately want an approved tinted light than a diy job. Especially with the insurance implications if anything bad was to happen 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

My mate bought some cans from halfruads to do his RX8 lights with, looked ok but as he had some spare so he decided his rear window needed doing, spray applied and off for a drive all went well and parked up, off to the shop all good, jump in car into reverse using rear view mirror and bang one civic type R in his rear bumper turns out he forgot he tinted the window and thought it was clear to reverse .
There is a legal percentage of what light must show, I have thought about using the spray but have always sacked the idea as has been said the legal side might be a problem, Defender lights are not the best and I use engine breaking a lot so don’t want to restrict any light when I do use the brakes. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

Spraying lights to make them darker? Defender lights are poor enough without any mods

The proposed plan was to buy a set of clear led Wipac’s and then spray the lenses all done for £200 (side lights, indicators, brake lights reverse and fog)

Still wouldn't recommend it, getting an even finish and longevity will be greatly compromised.
And it'll cost you more in the long run if I try doesn't work out. Choice is yours though, but I wouldn't. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Isacs I had the same thought pattern as you sometime back and thought I can spray tint lenses can’t be that difficult I now have a complete set of Nakatananga black LED give it a try but be very wary of the insurance ramifications 2015 HT XS 90

Do a test. Buy some fender bulb lenses off ebay for a few £££ spray em up and see how they look! That way youve not wasted any cash. Would also let you gauge how much light can get thru
The wipac lights have a very smooth surface could be quite easy to spray. |

Because the ones you buy for instance from Nakatanenga are “E” marked so fully road legal whereas your diy spray attempt won’t be..... ring your insurance company and ask their opinion they will advise you I’m sure. 2015 HT XS 90

Yes, and the are obligatory lights required by law except the reversing light.
So laws do apply in a higher degree than say a light bar. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
