Why do you think duralac and stainless bolts wont stop dissimilar corrosion, thought thats what this stuffs for?
What do you suggest then?

There's a company on Bay selling some substantial looking traditional ones that have been galvanised. CLICKY LINK

Either painted or powder coated, they seem like a good solution to the usual problem of them rusting when the coating flakes off. Darren

It's a perennial problem of course, well discussed on LR and Boating forums. I wish I had a more retentive memory or paid more attention at the time but there are loads of threads on this and they start of when someone suggests Duralac as it's so well known but then others come in with better products (sorry don't know the name of!) and good give reasons for them such as Duralac actually holding water! Maybe a search on here and boating forums such as YBW.com.

Half the problem is not letting the metal come into contact with each other, any substance will just get squashed out, self tappers for instance rely on gripping the metal so the equivalent of raw plugs have been suggested, easier in your case if you are using bolts. Maybe put the bolt in a sheath and paint the edges of the exposed ali where you have just drilled (may need etch primer for some paints!) plastic washers maybe and plaster the whole lot in something whilst fixing Thumbs Up What ever you do it will corrode eventually (long time) it's just staving it off!

Sorry cannot be more help but searching should help to identify the good stuff...

My Defender came with the standard LR guards fitted front and rear - what a pain in the ass they are. They won't be on future purchases that's for sure. So, do you really need them fitted?

Defo DONT go with the ones that bolt up onto the panel above the lights. I bought my 07 with them already on and when i went to try to change the light bulbs i couldn't get the bloody screws out because they were rusted right through and the thread was stripped ! To say the least i wish they were never on cause now im going to have 4 holes that will either need patched or i'll have to buy new panels, spray them, and fit them which will cost me around £400 to £500 Big Cry

You could go for these

No corrosion issues, no alignment issues, no bulb-changing issues, and they should fit! Thumbs Up

What are people trying to achieve with these light guards?

If protection from stones being flicked up and smashing glass then it is a bit hit and miss if those guards work

Land Rover do some poly carb light protectors. They do take some beating from stones before they crack. Downside of these are that if you use stick on beam deflectors then since front of light is warmer the glue will go brown after a reasonable time period

Light guards are for looks more than a practical solution plus a pain to clean the lights.

If you get a knock on a light guard then you are into bodywork damage.

In most cases it's the guard that causes the damage. Laughing 993 Varioram - Guards Red

Completely disagree! Unless I'm the exception to the rule, Cor-4(similar to the Equipe ones) saved my speakers from being smashed to hell by half an engineering brick flying up from the back of a wagon doing 50mph. No damage to wing either. Only the guard was bent in about 5-10mm.
Unfortunately, they won't fit on with an ARB Deluxe Bar and so now they sit gathering dust on a shelf Crying or Very sad

Choosing to put light guards on was primarily function over form. Choosing Cor-4 however was because all things considered they looked the best in both aesthetics and more importantly strength. The finish is not the greatest, but still a lot better than the finish on most after market stuff. Plus, as Derrick at LRS was selling them that was a good enough testament for me. I believe they are now very difficult to get hold of like with all Cor-4 stuff Crying or Very sad
