Blower Fan Problem
Hi everyone,
All has been going well with my Defender. However this morning I was driving around with the aircon on and the blower set to 3, after about 10 mins the cab was nice and cool so I set the blower to 2, then after 5 mins to 1. As I drove on, the blower stopped of its own accord.

The air con definitely still works as long as the blower is set to 2 or 3. If the blower is switched off, and I press the aircon switch on, the aircon telltale light comes on and I can hear a change in the engine noise and revs will reduce but there will be no blower fan.

With the aircon off, the blower will only work on setting 2 or 3.

So, has anyone had this before? Is it something that can be fixed relatively easily?

Thanks for any help

It that way.

I would think it would be the switch that would be the problem,if it only worked on the highest setting then the blower motor resistor would be at fault. 2005 Td5 90 XS

So its probably a case of a new switch then? Could be worse.

Thanks for the replies.

if the 0,45 ohm resistor is broken, see the electrical scheme, the speed 1 doesn't work, the 2 and 3 will work!!!

Ah brilliant diagram!

I've never had to get in to the heater system before. Is it a hard job? I've got the tools and I learn as I go along. Is it dashboard out?

Does anyone have the part number to hand for the resister to hand.

Thanks

two screws, take-off the old one, put in the new one, easy job

before buying the new resistor, check the old one with a multimeter.....

for check the resistor 1, 0,45 ohm measure the resistance from pin1 and pin2

for check the resistor 2, 0,55 ohm measure the resistance from pin2 and pin3

Sounds as if the resister pack on the heater fan blower has partly failed. Speed 3 is full current whereas speed 2 & 3 use a resistance to cut the current and give a slower speed. The resistance pack is found on the side of the heater between the electrical connector and the blower assembly and is held on by 2 screws. Thumbs Up
