I agree. I don't even find a IIA uncomfortable, nevermind a Defender. I am at a loss to understand these people that think they are so bad to drive - have they only ever driven a duff one? Badly built? Maybe, but thats due to the workforce/manufacturer being sloppy, not due to anything wrong with the design. As stated elsewhere, they don't sell anything like as well as they should be as Landrover make it hard for people to buy one - zero marketing, limited quotas assigned to dealers etc...they could easily sell a lot more than they are doing without changing the overall design. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I've owned and driven 90's, 110's Puma's TD5's atc, sure they are fun to drive but noisy and unrefined, fine for town or country roads and short distances but motorways are really hard work so they just don't cut it as an all-rounder anymore for me.
Jump out of one into a D3 and it's like a different world. Don't get me wrong, I think they are fabulous as 2nd cars, off-roaders, or workhorses. Andy |

Or you could go for one of the Nene Overland "Icon" range showcased on page 50 of LRO february issue - in my view most of the variants are hideous

Everyone goes on about how it won't do it's job. But if you read about it in autocar, lro etc then there's some really good ideas.
Things like strong unstainable (that does appear to be a word) seats. You should see the state of my xs seats their ripped and stained. Auto box could stop me having to get new clutches. Also the bigger wheels allow the fitting on brakes. This would be handy when I've got 3.5 tons of logs and someone pulls out in front of me. Think my ifor does most of the braking. So I am in and so will be my company but only if they fit windscreen wipers that work. |

Victoria Beckham consulted once again? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Exactly. Have something like that standing nearby and I wouldn't even notice the DC100. I also agree with others here: I find Landies are quite fine as everyday vehicles. Been using a TD5 with overdrive and have never really had a moment where I wished I was in a normal car. And I know the Pumas are even easier. Then again I have driven from Finland to Wales in a Caterham 7, so what do I know. I think the top fix for a Defender would be to widen it slightly: better onroad stability (+ better on some grades of hills too), more storage capacity and more comfort for all. These are potentially all great things. Now stick them on a vehicle that actually feels like a Defender and we'll be happy |

I think it is just that some people have gone soft Dan and want a luxury car with a Landrover badge for the image. I've done many long trips through Europe in a Defender and never had a problem on tracks or motorways - solo or towing. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |
