Anyone fitted pulse dampeners to their Puma's fuel rail?
As pointed out by a fellow landyman here in SA:

On the way back home, traveling on the R62 to Ladysmith, on the first steep hill outside of Barrydale, it happened again. Smell of Diesel and there we go, stuck on the side of the road with a broken Landy for the 8th time in the last year. The fuel line from the high preasure pump tp the common rail decised to spring a leak.

After 3 hours of fruitless talks to LR Assist, this mean sounding 2,8 shorty stopped next to me, and the only persomn to ever have more k at k with a Puma than me stepped out. Sorry Naks, no, it was X of all people. To make a long story short, he helped me tape up the pipe just so I can get back into Barrydale, and while I was getting something to drink, went one step further by arranging with the local workshop to help me sort out the problem.

The local chaps at the Caltex service station in town has been working on Landies for the last 40 years, and took a fuel line of an older Landy and fitted it for me, and back on the raod I was. If anyone ever have Landy
problems in or near Barrydale, contact AMS Service Centre on 081 521 8490 or 082 585 7752, they will get you sorted without the cost of an arm or a leg.

So by the way, it has now been a week since I took the broken pipe back to the local stealer, and yes, you guessed it, still no feedback on a replacement. For all those with Pumas, have pulse dampeners fitted to those fuel lines, not sure how LR in all their wisdom expect pipes operating under these type of preasure to last without pulse dampeners.

VW/Audi recently did a recall on their 2.0 TDi engine IIRC for just this issue. The No2 injector pipe was cracking due to the fuel pump pulses where coinciding with the natural frequency of injector line no2.

Are you sure that the common rails fitted to the Puma do not already have an internal pulse damper fitted as standard? IIRC it was a Ford Tech in the states that patented this idea in the early 90's and was incorporated into Ford diesel engines? I will need to look into this now as my interest has been tweaked. The puma does have the option to monitor fuel pump pulse widths as there are sensors to report this to the ECU. And after checking my scangauge in the defender I had already set up the xgauges to monitor these readings so I would think the ECU does this as standard on all Pumas. Thumbs Up
