Rust on bulkhead/doorseal
For a while I've had a draft coming into the cab from behind the heater controls and when I examined it the door seal was out of line I pulled the door seal to realign it and found that the lip of the bulkhead it sits in is rusting away although the bulkhead proper isn't. Additionally water sometimes comes in at the top corner of the door I'm concerned it is running behind the door seal and down the back of the bulkhead. Has anyone had experience of this please as I want to cure it before winter comes. Any advice would be greatly received many thanks.

It's a deefer... they all leak!! Take a look at the following doc...

http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Manu...Manual.pdf

Could come from a number of places. Mine does the same.

You could spend a lot of time, energy and money trying to fix it.... or just accept it. It's part of their character. I have to remind my wife of that every time it rains.

But seriously... there are a few pages in the above manual that relate.

Many thanks for the link.

I love my Defender and the leaks and rattles don't worry me it's just the crumbling on the lip of the bulkhead.

how bad is it? Could you snap a pic? The draft is probably from your scuttle vents. Many replace the standard foam ones with the earlier Series rubber seals. Foam sticks to the flap, rubber glues to the bulkhead. Stops a lot of water ingress.

Also the water could be coming from your roof, dripping down the door seal. You may have to pull the headliner. Mine is doing this and I know it's coming from a few splits in the rain gutter as well as the seam in the roof. Previous owner had a roof rack that cracked the gutter in a few spots.

I've found a few areas where the worm has started to feed... I try and hit it with a wire brush or wheel, then spray liberal amounts of "rust reformer" into/over it. Prime and touch up.

If you go through the truck in a methodical way (front to back/top to bottom), paying attention to that doc... You can at least stop the moisture from feeding it.

It's a frequent topic.. Smile
