They had them all off. Pto pump transfer and then gearbox. I'll gave a good look around and see what's what. Helpful video with the smc connectors to extend the breathers for testing

There are only 2 notches for the detent ball in the difflock selector shaft. I suppose it is possible you're moving the shaft further than its normal travel and feeling it pass beyond the detent.
