Changed my battery today, carefully, with no mishaps or untoward occurrences. (2008/2.4)
When I started the car, most of the instrument cluster was not working: nothing from the gauges, odometer or some of the warning lights - but alarm, indicators, headlamp and handbrake lights all fine. All other electrics seemed to be functioning correctly. The car started fine and was driveable (using Torque Pro to view speed/revs/temp) - but there seemed to be a loss of performance similar to, but not the same as, limp home mode. No MIL showing of course, but read fault code U0155 (communication lost with instrument cluster). Looked at fuses, tried restarting a few times and clearing the fault code, and had a look at this thread: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic74893.html All to no avail. Disconnected the battery, left it for an hour, reconnected the battery. All is now well. Has anyone else encountered this? If it just needs a further 'reboot' occasionally after the battery is disconnected, no worries. I've not experienced it before however, and if it is a sign of imminent failure, it would be good to pre-empt the evil day. In fact, if it weren't for the loss of performance, the only immediate issue was loss of the fuel gauge, which I don't think can be replicated via OBD and Torque Pro? |

I had this happen when on a trip in France over the xmas period. Lost the whole instrument cluster with no warning lights or gauges. Plugged in my fault reader but no faults found
Took the dash to bits, checked all the plugs fuses relays wiring etc but could not find the issue. The vehicle worked fine and drove normally, so set up my satnav as a speedo and drove to garage to see if they could find the fault - they pointed me to another garage which was a landrover specialist, However when we got back in and turned on the ignition all was back to normal ... !! No issues since ! having searched on here I have found that this fault has happened to several people in the past with the same results ... no fault but it sorted its self out after a while (2 hrs in my case ...) So I put it down as a landrover defender gremlin ! I’ve reflowed the solder on many of these Tdci clusters where they’ve cracked at the plug on the pcb
