A mystery fit for Sherlock himself.
We got a letter from the electricity supply company recently. It stated that as our meter had not been read for a year and all of our bills for the year had been estimated they were obliged to notify us of this fact. I contacted them to ask why the meter had not been physically read during the year. I was told there was a note against the account stating that the gate to the premises was locked. "We don't have a gate. Been here since 1986 and we never had a gate" I told them on the phone. Anyway it was finally read. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Just get a gate…it’s easier in the long run.

Dealing with utility companies is nothing short of hard work.

My team (University estates management) deal with every conceivable query and error in relation to energy/utility supply - some of which you wouldn’t believe.

We spent ages only last month explaining to them that we didn’t own or operate a petrol station. Although thinking about it maybe we should…

I share your pain and have had similar issues with utility companies. Most recently was a bill for part of a bus station that we don't own and more frustratingly, a huge bill for a building that had been demolished for over six months and that I'd sent them a picture of the meter and its' severed tails on the day of disconnection Rolling Eyes Darren

Yes that all sounds dangerously familiar - we’ve even been billed for high street shops…

We too had an interesting one regarding the water meter when we moved in about 4 years ago. We started getting high water bills but as there’s only 2 of us we couldn’t understand why.
I phoned the water company to query it and they asked if we had a swimming pool and had recently refilled it!!! Rolling with laughter
Anyway after lots of investigation it transpired that our water meter was fitted without request so the water company didn’t do any checks, our meter not only supplied our house, but the house behind ours and also a supply to a cattle drinking trough in the next field, the cows were breaking off the ball valve and water was flowing 24 hours a day!!
The water company guy came to check this for himself and concluded by saying that they could fix it but it would be very expensive…… for me!!!!!

I told him to leave before I let the dogs out!! “a committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but as a group decide nothing can be done.”
