UPDATE

So after being told that alternators are on back order, they managed to call around and have 1 allocated to me. But it's going to take 6 days to get from JLR to the dealership. How in this modern world can the logistics chain take 6 days to move a part from point A to point B?

So it should be with the dealership on Thursday and fitted. I need the car back with a towbar to tow the tintent away on holiday on the Friday afternoon.

Loan car came with removable towbar fitted but not the hook part. Apparently, the dealership has to order these in as a separate item. And the dealership didn't have any in stock. And they don't seem interested in changing to a vehicle with a towbar. 110 D250 SE HT

l was actually going to get an XC40 back in 2020 but reading the owners forum put me off!! Owners complaining of various issues and dealers unable to sort them.

However my friend bought one this year and it's been faultless, but he misses his stolen Discovery Sport which it replaced.

Mrs Walfy killed her Evoque last year and replaced it with an XC60. It's so much better than the Evoque. More comfortable, better specced, all round better.

Why don't you just leave them to it rather than pounding them
with phone calls and getting stressed out.

They'll tell you when yours is ready. l am sure they are repairing it as quickly as they can.

Have some fun in the courtesy vehicle, why not go away somewhere for the weekend in it.

l've been through this with car dealerships so many times over the years, life's too short to take years off it shouting at them.

Sorry, but why should you roll over to poor service? If you don't challenge it then things will not improve because complacency and in competence will rule. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Well, if you think it will improve the service then by all means.

But l fear you are just shouting at the drones, who can't do anything to improve matters.
You need to raise it with the big guns, wherever they are.

l've read through all this again.
I have to say, l am still not seeing how the O/P has been so badly treated.

His Defender broke down on the way to somewhere

He was recovered fairly quickly to a local dealer (much quicker than l was recovered by the RAC when my vehicle broke down)

He was provided with a courtesy vehicle of the same make and model, the same day.

His vehicle is being repaired

l would have struggled to find genuine complaints during this process although l
would have been pretty fed up that my vehicle broke down.

2 years ago I had problems receiving payments for my solar Feed In Tariff when SSE sold their domestic supply services to Ovo. After 6 months of getting nowhere with emails and phone calls and not receiving the more than £1000 that they owed me I gave them a last, time limited (ie within the next 2 weeks) payment date or I would write to the chairman…………… I was ignored as expected so I found out who the chairman is, their email and postal address and sent an email with the email trail of all my communications with his customer “no service” team. I had an email by return from the chairman saying he would personally look into my complaint - by the end of the week I had full payment, a nice compensation for the problems I had faced and then a personal letter apologising. I recently had to replace my generation meter which also meant advising the FITs team of the serial number and reading on installing the new meter………….. I requested confirmation of receipt of my email and the attached photos but again no response - 3 emails later I threatened copying in the chairman again……… immediate response confirming that my new details had been input into the database and lo and behold my online banking told me a couple of days later that I had received an apology compensation payment of £50.
So if you aren’t getting anywhere with the people “on the shop floor” find out who is in charge right at the top (the chairman) and accurately detail you complaint to that person - you might be surprised like I was with the result. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

my sister in-law 'bought' one. well paid a deposit, didn't hear anything for ages, complained so they got a demo........went on for about 6 months. heard nothing. complained and eventually got an XC60 in the wrong colour but they had no paper work to back up what they'd ordered about 12 months earlier.
on a positive they had about 6 months free motoring Rolling with laughter

Well, l hope the O/P gets his Defender back soon, and the failure is a random one rather than something that's going to occur more frequently on these vehicles like the headlamp DRL failures.

I think resale values remaining strong only applies to HT.

Mine is worth £16k less than I paid for it in 8 months. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Moo, I agree but I achieved a part-ex value of £53000 for my 2020 D240 110 First Edition I had paid £59000 for 3 years and 22000 miles use. I was a bit surprised as the D240 isn’t popular - more so as the dealer had a forecourt rammed with 1-2 year old D250 and D300 110’s taken in during the 1st week of March. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

You need to shop around. I was looking at trade in for a Grenadier and the dealer figure was awful. Even WBAC offered me more.

2.5 years old and 62k miles, value dropped £10.5k from purchase price.
