Is my new ICE going to cause battery issues?
Afternoon all!

Pretty excited as I’m hoping to install my very first ‘mods’ this week.. it is of course a car audio upgrade. And when I say “I’m”.. I mean the fellas at the garage Mr. Green

But I’m wondering if it’s going to give me any headaches re: draining the battery when the car’s not in use? Here’s a short list of my new gadgets.

- double din Pioneer160DAB head unit
- Focal PC100 front speakers
- two less well known 5” rear speakers
- powered slimline/under seat sub
- reverse camera
- DAB antenna

Any thoughts? Cheers in advance!

I'd not be remotely worried about the total current draw from that kit.

Unless you already have some significant issues with your charging circuit, or your battery is absolutely on its last legs, then I doubt you'll notice any difference at all.

I'm running significantly higher load than that, from a stock setup with a battery that is more than 5 years old and I've not noticed any issues at all.

Brilliant - that’s the answer I was hoping for!

Thank you.

The correct answer is NO. I run Pioneer kit and the head unit will draw some milliamps when idle/off (less than 150 milliamps if memory serves me correctly, which is 0.15A) Call it 0.1A and your 75Ah battery will run that for 750hrs which is a month of power. In reality it is probably even less draw than that. I have often left my Defender for 3-4 weeks and had no issues restarting it.

The rest of the equipment you list should all rely on the head unit to switch on so no draw at all unless the head powers up, which should be just when the engine is running and kicking out enough juice to power ancillaries anyway.
