How you drive it is everything for fuel consumption. Some people just don't care. Best to go to fuelly or something like that to get a decent spread. I suppose we need to wait a little for that.

But 20-21mpg for a diesel 4x4. My 110 2.2 is towards the high 20’s and it’s used pretty hard, 160k plus miles and 9 years old.
For 2023 that’s pathetic. If it’s doing 20-21mpg what happens when it’s towing something heavy and a load of kit in the back. It’s going to be in the 10’s. Our vans are doing 20-36mpg now. The newer ones are getting even better. |

My 2015 2.2 110 is 27mpg with day to day driving. On a long steady run low 30s. Fully loaded with roof tent 24.
I hear that an old Defender with a BMW 3.0 Diesel engine swap gets into the 30s. I'm surprised that the Grenadier does not match that. |

That's very poor for this day and age... especially not towing or anything?
My 110 2.4 averages 28mpg and can see 34 / 35 if steady. Even towing it does more than 21 the Full fat RR will do almost 40mpg on any run over 10 miles. and I've seen 50 mpg A modern car even the size etc it is should see 30 plus easy? What's the petrol consumption like? cannot be much in it and its cheaper / quieter. Appreciate it may be tight with 2K miles on but does not sound good. |

What does mixed driving mean? I'd hazard a guess that we'd all have different ideas about that and that a sample size of one doesn't tell you anything of substance. Wait until more have been running around for a lot longer than a few weeks before jumping to conclusions. Darren

Also need to factor in the kerb weight of the Grenadier is 2700kg so 700kg heavier than old 110.

I always thought that the reason modern cars (especially 4x4s) get such good economy figures, is due in part to the fundamental redesign in the entire drive trains, along with greatly improved aero dynamics.
If the Grenadier has intentionally continued with Ladder Chassis, Beam Axles and (as far as I can see) prioritised looks/design over aerodynamics, then I'm not surprised that the mpg is poor by modern standards. Especially if it's 30% heavier than a Defender 110. It's essentially an older vehicle design, but much better built. I think the Grenadier has done a pretty good job at keeping some of the DNA from the Defender alive, but there are inevitable consequences of this. |

My 2007 2.4 runs at around 2700kg normally on BFG KM3 tyres and has a full length rack. It does however "breathe" much better than standard due to a large-bore RAI and Nuggetstuff filter. I filled the tank on Wednesday after just under 400 miles since the last fill, and it took a tad over 12 gallons to fill to the second click of the pump (which I always tend to do, and it was actually the same pump on the same forecourt as the previous fill). By my reckoning this means that I managed between 30 and 32 mpg for that 400 miles. The 400 miles consisted mainly of driving to and from work, 17 miles each way in a semi-rural commute (i.e. not traffic jams) plus one longer cross-country journey of 200 miles return, so a fairly mixed pattern of use but one which did not involve speeds of more than 60mph. I would probably not expect the Grenadier to match this since it is auto, and in my experience an auto is never as economical on fuel as a manual, but it would be disappointing if the Grenadier required 60% more fuel for the same usage. To put it in graphic terms, the £100 and 12 gallons that went into the Defender tank would have had to be £160 and 20 gallons in the Grenadier based on these figures. |

My D250 110 has done 10,600 miles since beginning of November. At least 4500 is motorway driving.
Since then the car tells me I've averaged 27.6 mpg, which to be honest is what I expected when I bought it. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Hopefully some Grenadier owners will post better fuel economy figures on here.
But yes, my Defender L663 D250 manages around 28mpg in city driving and around 25mpg towing our caravan. |

Click image to enlarge Yes, fuel consumption definitely is an issue. (Picture shows very limited range at an nearly full tank) His 10k telling a quite an disheartening story. 24Mpg on a full fletched Economy run, 18-19 not uncommon (unladen of course). Our D250 does consume much less, about 31 mpg (mixed driving, 96000 km). And it is a very heavy vehicle (2,8t). 0.7t payload for this dedicated "commercial" vehicle is not much. No? Our d250 even, can carry more than this. Price of 75-80 k€ does not scream commercial vehicle either. No wonder most of the reviews did not address this properly. With this attributes an imported fj76 would be a far better choice, even. |

Your 110 is also missing over 100hp and lots of torque. Doesn’t have to meet the same emissions standards. Weighs less as it doesn’t have to meet the same crash standards, has way less features and a manual gearbox. Ie if you put your engine in a Grenadier I bet it wouldn’t do the mpg you get with your 110 either. Last edited by Chicken Drumstick on 17th Jun 2023 2:31pm. Edited 1 time in total |

You are right. BMW with 100’s of engineers and millions of pounds of development, obviously should have skipped all that and just got you to design the engine |
