How to plug these holes
Afternoon chaps.

I am going for a slightly more classic look that the massive KBX light surrounds. Seen loads of pictures online of it and liked it. Bought the s3 surrounds and horn covers.

Obviously, now I am left with some gaping holes. What can I put here? What were they for initially?

This is just a test fitting and may well not bother at this rate.

The easiest approach is to buy something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374214340611

The large round hole with the four satellite holes is something of a mystery. Popular belief (i.e., Internet misconception) is that it is for the optional headlamp washer system supplied with certain Defenders, but the holes bear no similarity whatsoever with those needed for the headlamp washers and in fact make the fitting of washers quite a lot trickier. It is possible that LR was considering fitting a different design of washer to late vehicles but never progressed the idea beyond making unsightly holes in the from wing panels. Who knows! If you are interested, there are some illustrations on page 2 of this thread which show the relationship between these holes and those needed for genuine washer nozzle fitment.

The two lower small square holes are clearly for the plastic inserts for screws to be fitted, but once again I don't know, I'm afraid, what their purpose was. Perhaps one of the ghastly plastic from end treatments the factory offered in the run-out years needed them.

Both of these sets of holes were only features of the late models, my 2007 Defender does not have any of them.

That was my fear. Mystery holes and no straightforward solution short of sticking more bits on!

Perhaps I’ll head back to the kbx surrounds after all!

Just a thought but if you're not a fan of the KBX then you could go original? Rob
