I have a 200tdi Disco engine in my 1987 90. The old matrix was the same as yours, with curved pipes. Ive replaced the matrix with a new one (part of the chassis change) like for like. The fuse box that fits under the pipes hasn't enough room, thats why they zip tied it elsewhere. To be honest I cant see an issue replacing it with straight pipes, other than the hoses on mine would need to be changed to fit...In hindsight I'd have bought the straight option.
