Rattle under defender
Hi all. Not asking for any help this time. Just to possibly help anyone else that hears a worrying noise from underneath. So I bought this truck about 5 weeks ago and have had several issues. This forum has massively helped me. The last item was a tinny rattle from underneath. It sounded similar to the clutch rattle often reported but did not stop when the clutch was engaged, it increased with revs, in gear, out of gear, very noticeable at tick over.. Sounded like gearbox area which was a worry. Oils changed- same. Checked the reported heat shields by turbo and manifold etc. Finally, located it to some sort of metal protection for the rubber mounting to the gearbox on the near side, it was just catching the chassis. How can something so small cause such a worrying noise! Could not believe it. Such a relief. Hope this post might just help someone? 👍🏾
