After much head scratching, can anyone confirm I'm looking at the right kit?

DA3180P is the kit for ABS equipped late Defenders (inc Puma) - however, its not an OEM kit so wont have Timken Bearings and Corteco Seals. Its Britpart own brand kit, IRB

I spend a lot of money with Britpart... but you have to just know what your buying. Some of their own brand stuff isn't actually bad.

An addition if it's just the seals. On our MY15, Land Rover fitted seals which don't have an outer dirt seal/lip >-( (the arrows point to the gap where there should be none and to the dirt that gets in there).
It seems there are different part numbers for the seal but they are not related to whether it's the proper one or the 'Excel-optimised' i.e. cheap one. When I ordered LR059968/OEM I got a Corteco seal (12€). I also ordered another LR059968 and got allmakes (3€) - it has the old part number FTC3401 imprinted, but both have the outer seal and look very much the same. Click image to enlarge |

Hello chaps, looking to do this on my early td5 soon. I was wondering if any of you have changed the swivel seals using this method. Looks far easier than striping the hub. My swivel ball is in good order just the seal has become old and begun to weep. I can’t see any problem doing it this way.

Nothing wrong with that approach if your swivel bearings, CVs and hub bearings do not need servicing.
Just be prepared that the swivel/hub assembly is very heavy. I just fitted this kit to my 2010 DA3180G it was Britpart but with Timken bearings and Corteco seal.

Most of the time spent cleaning up the mess from the old leaking seals. The guy at Island 4x4 is very helpful with selecting the correct parts for your Defender. Kev |

That’s always how I do mine. Even if fully rebuilding them. Remove as one big part, get it on a bench to work on. But if all else ok just new seal, refit, add one shot grease. A 14mm ratchet spanner makes it a quicker/nicer job. |
