Start with the Land Rover club Utah . net and there are a few clubs on Facebook. They will know who can be trusted with a Defender.
What sort of help do you need? Can you DIY it or do you need a mechanic? The 300tdi is a pretty simple engine to work on. For local(ish) advice on the 300tdi drop Mike at Britannica Restorations a line. He is up in Canada, so within a few time zones of you and there isn't much he does not know about the 300tdi. He has done many YouTube videos on the subject. Best I can do I am afraid. Good luck. |

as noted above - quite a simple engine.
Even I have managed to remove and refit on over head valve engine - and its still worked. I am Mr Average - so chances are you'll be fine (assuming you have the limited number of tools available to you). good luck |

Thx for the answers guys.
I agree that the 300tdi is an easy engine to work on, but for some reasons the mechanics here disagree. One flat out told me that he has worked on them before and it's out of his league. They're way fiddly... Most of the other workshops don't have time to slot me in... I've also asked a club, but I haven't heard back other than they're asking around. There don't seem too many defendersoin this area. I could have done it myself, but a) it's not really a job I want to do on a campsite, b) i have no means to properly check the head. So I could put the gasket in but it might fail again and maybe the next time when I'm in a really remote area like the Yukon or whatever. Anyway, after someone proposed it in a Facebook group, I've decided to rent a U-Haul truck with trailer (lots cheaper than having the truck towed) and I'll head to Salt Lake City, where there's a proper workshop specializing in Defenders. Now I just hope the spare parts arrive in time, as LRdirect did not manage to ship them before the long weekend |

Well I am glad you now have a workable plan Pity about the bits, but at least you get to spend some quality time in Salt Lake City
Loads to do there for the weekend I am sure. |
