It sounds like a short somewhere. Get the cover off and follow the loom back from the injectors. If you lay a duratorque loom out the injector connectors are almost the furthest from the ecu from memory there are two two the alt one to maf one to turbo one to exhaust and one to air con everything else is behind the injectors. Clean all contacts in connectors with contact cleaner same for glow plug relay on bulkhead and check the earth nut on the bulkhead between the ecu and the heater blower.

There isn't an inertial switch on a 2.4 since it only has a mechanical fuel pump.

What fuel rail pressures are you getting while cranking?
If is it cranking but not starting the most likely reason is that no fuel is being injected, in which case either there is fuel rail pressure but the injectors are not firing (i.e., electrical/electronic issue), or the injectors are firing but there is no fuel pressure hence no injection. There are some other, more complex, issues which could be happening, but start with the simple things. |

Siwynne: OK, we tried unplugging the fuel pressure sensor - NO CHANGE MK: On PCM - is there a way that you can switch the IMMO off inside? Our diagnostic experts couldn't see how to do that. Siwynne: today we checked all the wires, cleaned off some 'silicone' that was one some terminals; we checked and the wires seems Ok to us blackwolf: when cranking we were getting 38125 kPa; but when we open an injector pipe there seems very low pressure. We disconnected the wires to the back of the fuel pump; no difference on pressure readings; we unplugged the wires from the fuel pressure sensor, still showing 38125 kPa when cranking. But we do seem to have very little fuel at the injector pipes; it kind of bubbles out but no 'squirting' or 'spraying' so think we are not getting enough fuel to the injectors. Fernando: I can not say if the replacement crankshaft sensor was placed with the corresponding light. I assume it was as the garage have experience in changing them. If it wasn't done properly would that lead to the issues we are seeing? Summary We are running out of ideas and patience; we still have some suspicion that the immobiliser (which has been checked/programmed and synchronised) is stopping fuel getting into the engine - i.e. it still hasn't sent the right information to the ECM/ECU to permit the engine to start. We know the engine itself works - we used a low level of ether and fired her up. It ran well.........but it wasn't enough to enable it to run on diesel........... We plan to replace the fuel pressure rail sensor; we plan to remove the immobiliser/ECU/speedo and refit ones from a donor vehicle. So frustrating!! ![]() ![]() |

If the gap between the cpk and the flywheel is not respected, it will not work, I think it is 2 mm. |

I have to assume that the mechanics that fitted the crankshaft sensor calibrated it to 2mm and set it correctly. Just to confirm, if this wasn't correct would we see a code on the ECM output or would it lead to the issues we have seen on fuel pressure for example? Next step is we plan to replace the fuel pressure rail sensor; we plan to remove the immobiliser/ECU/speedo and refit ones from a donor vehicle. I will also contact IRB to see if he has a torch to shine into the dark spaces and places on this vehicle!! |

I'm no expert but 38125 kPa is 381.25 bar of pressure that seems very high, it's not a nice round high number that sometimes instrument companies build in to show an obvious fault? The fuel pressure was measured on the OBC via our diagnostics man.
We will change the sensor to see what happens. |
