Quick bump to see if I am missing anything blindingly obvious before ordering a new spring to see if that fixes the old lock.

You put the key in the barrel while pressing the thingy? Does the key rotate? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Key in, rotate until the hole in the barrel lines up with the hole in the case (?) press pointy thing in, pull on key. No joy. I pulled so hard the key starts to come out! No amount of wiggling or jiggling seems to help.
Even if I can get it out... How does it work in the new one that doesn't have a hole in the same place? The newer one does have a hole but it is inside the lock body, accessed through a slot that the old one doesn't have. |

For your 2nd question, I wonder if you have the correct lock. The earlier locks (I think pre 2002) used smaller key, while after that they used the same key as the ignition.
The slot is for the central lock link. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
