Ctek charging via 12v & tow socket
My landy is parked up for a while so wish to plug in a Ctek 5.0 trickle charger.

I’ve noticed my Landy has a 12v port in the rear speaker area that seemingly charges a phone when engine is off (so presume it’s live when engine is off).

Would I be able to input a Ctek charging adapter (the 12v one) there?

But also I’ve heard you can charge via the tow socket, does this work for Td5s or do I need an adapter or modification?

It does sound like you would be able to charge through that cigarette socket, but check the fuse rating is compatible first.

As for the tow socket. If you have the older 7 pin (12N) tow socket then no you cannot, but you can through the 12S socket if you have one. If you have the newer 13 pin tow socket then yes you should be able to providing the wiring is there.

Thank you, I've just gone on CTEK's website and it states the cig plug adapter charger should only be used with 12v up to 8A.

How do I find out what amps / fuse the vehicle can take or is using there? The 12v cig port is literally cut (very neatly I might add) into the rear speaker housing.

Thanks for advising on the tow connector, unfortunately mine is a 7 pin. How would I check it is a 12n or 12s? (I recall an invoice to say it was replaced a 3-4 years back and it seems genuine Land Rover with the badging).

Sorry for all the questions

If you have only a single 7 pin socket it is 12N.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hi. I charge mine via the supply that is an available via the loom plug under the rear wheel arch.
In my case I have a 12n socket but also wired up a NATO socket for the Penman. This basically used the same cabling on the car with some modifications. So I have plug for this that I use with the CTEK. So there will be power there to use with some wiring. 2015 90 XS Santorini Black
