GKN and Roverdrive i thought were the only two OD suppliers.
Ashcrofts do UD, didn't know they did an OD too. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

From personal experience I've had both on my 110. the GKN overdrive had all the benefits you'd expect, no change to 1st ratio, higher MPG, quieter and less tiring at speed.
On the downside I lunched two of them, both just outside the warrenty! It turned out that the GKN overdrive unit is based on a Laycock unit used in a Triumph. It wasn't designed to take high tourque/high loads and would be prone to overheating. A fat lot of use when fully laden with service gear and a Rally car being trailered behind us then! Now I run the Ashcroft Disco transfer gears. It isn't as nice towing (1st is too high and you can't down shift as quick without the overdrive when losing speed up steep hills.) In all honesty. it needs a remap. I've been saying that since i fitted the disco gears, maybe one day I'll get round to it. "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'! |
