chassis is a thing of beauty and body appears to be close to modern standards. They’ll be in need of a fastidious preservation treatment as the new build looks ripe for deterioration but that’s the same whatever vehicle you look at.

Isn't the whole structure galvanised prior to painting? I think INEOS have gone to some lengths to avoid a crusty Puma situation.

I’m sure I’ve read about the lengths they’ve gone to with surface protection on the chassis, it’s an excellent effort but everything that bolts to it as dry factory as you’ll find anywhere. Couple of our winters will have it scabbing up just lovely if left as delivered. Nothing a trip to a quality professional or even a strong DIY effort wouldn’t sort. This applies to all manufacturers so nothing new.

Have they discussed VAT and BIK yet re the payload carrying ability?

IIRC they was a big issue early on with 5 seater ‘commercials’ not qualifying, so I think it ended up that only 2 seaters would qualify for VAT and other business tax relief benefits. I think the result was that the only way to get a 5 seater to qualify would be to run it as a pool car.

Shame. With the ability to get a euro pallet into it, they could have tried harder and had a niche USW market. I can’t justify a two seat. Maybe have to wait until the pickup arrives if the payload is right. 1951 80" S1 2.0

ls this definitely the case now, that only the 2 seat Commercial version is classed as "Commercial" for BIK if you are a LTD company?

The website still shows it as a Commercial Vehicle.

United Kingdom 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Corris Grey
I saw my first one on the road last Saturday not far from Newmarket in Suffolk. (A horse world - that figures!)

I have to say I did a double take as it looked like a Defender driving towards me - probably more like a Defender than the new Defender if I was to be brutally honest.

I think it looks great, but I just couldn’t buy another vehicle with a large Diesel engine in the world we live in these days (not that I am getting shot of my 110 or have the money to spend on a replacement)

When they finish hammering us diesel drivers they will start hitting the petrol heads. After that they will hit EV drivers as the weight of the cars is causing damage to the roads!
I got this photo from the AULRO site.
I do like it but looking at that photo it shows how limited rear vision is with dirty rear windows. Due to the off set of the wiper owing to the split rear door a lot of vision is blocked out on the passenger side. This is caused by the split door frame on the two door sections and the dirty window behind the ladder. On the old Defender the one piece rear door had a central wiper which, I think would give a better view. It is the price you pay for the split rear door which many seem to like.It would not put me off owning one.
I had work vans with the same system of split rear doors so I have experience of this.

Nowadays I prefer having no rear window at all. It's really not an inconvenience and is a distinct advantage now so many vehicles are fitted with weaponised headlamps.

I'm not sure where it's located but the Grenadier has the factory option of a reversing camera. Darren

Do we not have left and right wing mirrors instead of the inside mirror? Then for reversing you would probably have a camera, so yeah rear view maybe not as important as it was in the 70s and 80s
