My Series 1 1954 86"
Hello

Well, here I am again, over 8 years since swapping a perfectly good German car for the 110 Puma, then 5 years ago buying my first Series.. a Series III.

Now I went and bought this....

1954 (69 years young)

Few recent jobs its had...

New Bulkhead
New Rear x member
New Wiring Harness
New SU fuel pump
New Swivels
New brakes
New Tyres
New Seats
New Hood
New Sticks

So I looked at a couple and this one for me with all the work already done, looked the best. At this age they have all had different owners that have done different things. The guy was lovey and knows his stuff. Its bruised and battered round the edges but every one of those marks could probably tell a story Smile. I will aim to find out more about where its been, I'm tempted to think its ex Army at some point?

The only bad part was, it was over 260 miles from me.... so Last Saturday afternoon we (the family) head up to Scotland, Stopped over Sat night, viewed the car Sunday morning and drove back home.

A deal was done, and I was working out how and when to collect. As luck would have it my brother was going up to Scotland Monday just gone. So made sense to see if we could combine his trip with collecting. (which we did) Very Happy

Job done Smile Not much to report yet as only got it back Monday evening and I'm doing some work on my front drive so always seem busy doing something.

Initial reports its getting the Thumbs Up from anyone who see's it.

Neighbours probably think I'm mad, but as we all know these things just get in your blood !!.

Will post some more when hopefully I have time to tinker on the weekend. Thumbs Up

Nice! Have you joined the LRSOC yet - a worthy club to join, and if so, have you applied to take part in the National Rally at Packington Hall - its not too late! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Looks a nice useable Series 1. As Strang mentioned joining the Series One Club would be very worthwhile if only for the quality magazine.

What makes you think it is ex-military?

Shame about the chequer-plate and it looks as though the galv has been painted (both anathema to me, I'm afraid) but apart from that it looks good. Thumbs Up

Does it have any evidence of a military lighting socket and keep on the nearside rear wing? I’ve covered the hole on mine with a GB badge but I have a nos socket which I may fit one day.

The reason I thought maybe military was the search light and the details on the high / low gear selector.

No other evidence...

I'm not keen on the chequer plate, and even though only had it 5 days took it off to look under it.

All ok but for me to match the colour will be tricky for now so put it back on.

The galvanised your right again I'm not keen on it painted but so many other things ticked the boxes,

New bulkhead / rear x member and wiring loom to mention a few Smile

So compared to others I looked at this was by far the best for me.

The selector knobs are not original, and I can see nothing in the photos to suggest it's ex-mil. That doesn't mean it isn't, of course.

None of this detracts from it being a nice vehicle.

My First joys of ownership today,

No Signals or Brake lights, they 'did' work.

So took the panel off with the signal switch (a sort of bakelite device) that turns left / centre / right.

Noticed a wire had come apart, bit fiddly but sorted.

Next bit the Brakes, no luck yet. I see the brake spring / switch device under the pedal near the drivers wheel, I suspect this is the issue but ran out of time to investigate,.

Will report back Thumbs Up

Back from work and in the workshop to look why no brakes.

Turns out the spring that pulls the switch out was not doing its job

Having just bought brakes for the series 3 luckily I had some springs spare in much better condition.

Nice easy swap and now have brakes Smile

Not been on for ages but over Summer as well as another landscaping project managed to take the Series on a few trips.

Did I mention its slow Rolling with laughter Like 30 / 30 mph slow.... on a flat road Smile

Took the roof off also over summer (well the canvas) and did a quick job of removing the chequer plate as I hated it,

Before..

Good useable S1, nice to got for a Slow trundle in the Summer. I used to use them all year round but now in Winter I like a good heater and a soft seat Laughing
