Heated mirrors - How to turn on Manual at any temperature ?
Another day of rain.....

Coming from a VAG car, I could put de electrical switch in the middle and the heated mirrors work at any temperature.

How to adress this ?

Talking about safety ......

The heated mirrors are connected to the rear defroster. As long as the rear defrost is on, the heated mirrors will be on.

Still struggling with the heated mirrors. It's just not safe.
The problem is the outside temperature above the 'stupid' values of JLR and downgrading the percentage of heating.

See this screenshot

Changing these values ( to 100% temperature independant and switch off time longer ) would be very welcome.

@stevemfr. Could you take a look with the IID GAP tool ? No Mud flaps for my 90.!

I don't think it downgrades the % of heating - just the time they stay on.

10-25C is 25% so 5 minutes.

You should just be able to turn them on again.

In my opinion they are not fully heated in the Summer.

And Yes it can rain / drizzle a lot in the Summer above 25 degrees Celsius.
So turning it on 12 times an hour because the mirrors will be constant receive new raindrops.
It just doesn't work, I need to concentrate on the traffic.
Driving with my VW T5 in rain in the summer on German autobahn the heated mirrors can be turned on and will be constant heated and raindrops disappear very quickly . Good view through dry mirrors even with high speeds

( Ps. I don't have the clearsight rear view mirror ) No Mud flaps for my 90.!

lt's most likely configurable using the GAP diagnostics tool.

Hopefully it will be available soon.

My 90 had its PPF added 2 weeks ago and I asked the detailers if they could recommend anything that might stop bugs from staying stuck on the front screen. Whatever they applied (I can find out for you if you want) has worked really well at repelling the rain water to the extent that I almost don’t need the wipers! Less effective at preventing stuck in bugs though……. Might be worth trying that on the wing/ side mirrors rather than heating. My previous 2 x Evoques and the last Sport I owned all had factory fitted water repellent glass on the front side windows which was also very effective but LR appears to have stopped fitting that glass finish. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Yep Rain X. What you are showing is no more dangerous than the majority of cars out there without heated mirrors. You just need to drive accordingly.

Yes was thinking the same. "Talking about safety" like suddenly the car is unsafe because you cannot switch on the heated mirror? I think maybe you want to adjust your perception of safety, like for instance not taking a picture of your mirror in what looks to be the fast lane of a motorway?

It is widely understood that we reached the plateau of car safety by car design a few years ago with the remaining improvements in safety coming to some extent from infrastructure design but largely from people behavioural awareness.

Never had heated mirrors on my old Defender and it was always okay. But as mentioned by the O/P on our VW you could leave the heated mirrors on permanently if you wanted and it was definitely better.

Yep, and I still think despite energy saving and scientific formats,
some controls should always could been overruled on the moment/demand you'll desperately need them.
User and saferty first , energy/environment in this case later

Working on it with the GAP IIDtool V4 to address this issue.

By the way still love the VAG middle mirror position selector to turn the heated mirrors on at any time, without timeout. No Mud flaps for my 90.!
