Hi all
I just wondered if anyone still bothers with CB Radios in their vehicles? Jim |

I refitted one on my 90 rebuild a couple of years ago - our local pay and play centre marshalls use them plus I have a few friends that have them fitted and we use them when travelling together, especially on remote greenlanes with no phone signal etc. We do use walkie talkies as well but unless you have the latest versions, the sound quality is often not that good in my experience
I will admit that there is probably a certain amount of sentimentality from my youth, harking back to CB Pirates. I was a kid when the rules were finally relaxed but I knew a few local teenagers who were radio hams with their code names and secret language plus favourite movies and TV shows from the time such as Smokey and the Bandit, Convoy and Dukes of Hazzard all made CB very cool |

I have one but rarely use it. On the other hand, when I do it’s really useful. This tends to be when travelling with other vehicles. I’ve had LR trips in Scotland and Ireland with friends and it makes communication so much easier.
We’re heading for the Pyrenees later this year, with a couple of friends, and I’ve persuaded him to get one. They’re not expensive and I think it will pay for itself in the one trip. I remember the ‘fashion’ thing for them back in the day, but was never bothered by that. Yes, a very useful thing to have when doing laning trips, or longer expeditions. No association with the company, but have a look at Thunderpole, based in Northampton. They do a complete starter kit for less than a hundred pounds. You don’t need to spend a fortune on anything fancier.
I have the Thunderpole T800, with a fixed Orbitor antenna, works really well. I’m also off to the Pyrenees this summer, and we all have the same. When are you going Donmacn, we’re going on the 22nd June for 10 days, Andy 👍 |

Our own preference for a trip would be late May/ early June but the folks we’re travelling with this year need to wait till later, so it’ll be the last week in August, and then three weeks in September.
I was in the Valencia area in July last year seeing all the stuff about forest fires in north and nw Spain on telly so hoping this doesn’t impact upon us going later in the year. Hope you have a good trip though - be sure to write it up before I head off! Back on topic, both last times I’ve bought any CB stuff it was from the Norfolk CB shack - or something like that. A wealth of CB information on their site. I've got one in my 110, can't remeber when I last used it. usually use PMR's thesedays, I have a collection of those (although I use them a lot when I'm doing security work as well, which helps)

I have one in the 101. It's handy for comms whilst in convoy to MV shows or group camping expeditions.

The last time I had a CB was back in the early 1980’s when I had one fitted in my Austin Allegro…..😱
So if you are driving on the motorway are truck drivers and others still chatting to each other? Jim |
