I have often wondered with these online plate makers, when they say:
do they actually mean this? Do these folks really expect people to send their original V5 documents off to some fairly random company off ebay? Or do they just write this to satisfy the legal T's and C's and just make and send them to you anyway? 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

The place I’ve ordered plastic plates from in the past doesn’t even ask for documentation. Charlie

There's two ways of doing this.
The official way gets you a BS approved plate with the supplier's i.d at the bottom as it should legally be and required proof of entitlement (V5), or.... You can buy 'show' plates for static display purposes only. These can say whatever you want, however you want. I have a set of showplates on my 110. The characters are mis-spaced to give me a favourable land rover related plate and makes an O look like a 0 (both are identical in the official approved font). I've had no trouble with my plate, there is no attempt to hide the characters, they are just mis-spaced but fully comply with the required font and plain standard background in all other respects. I do have a set of legal plates which get used once a year as my MOT tester refuses to test my vehicle with the 'dodgy' plates fitted. If you want to be 100% legit you need to provide the V5 and get a BS marked plate made to the official size, spacing, font and background. If you want to bend the rules, get some showplates ordered and take your chances..... |

I've been after a set of 'legal' metal pressed plates for a while - the wording on the rules around them suggested that they couldn't be legal if they were not plastic as they would not have the right reflective properties.
The plates from EJ Parts are stated to contain the BS mark and be fully legal, which is great, that takes the responsibility off my shoulders should I get pulled over. But! I find it hard to believe that people are really sending their original V5 forms, in the post, to some 'untrusted' third party off the internet, it just does not seem practical or safe to me. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

I have been trying to buy a numberplate for a trailer owned by local authority over the past few weeks. It is a nightmare because the Hilux tow vehicle is authority owned no-one actually knows where the v5 is located. I have tried numerous “showplate” sellers and everyone has insisted that I provided the correct documentation, even for a showplate.

Never had an issue buying plastic, pressed steel etc. from the bay of e and the seller mentioned above over the years. Many with the BS etc.
The footnotes and show vehicle slant are to cover their bum. My brother sent photocopies of his docs 🤪 and they didn’t expect it… Just order them without sending any docs and see what happens 👍 |

Have a look at Plate for Cars. I think they’re based in EIRE. On the subject of pressed plates does anybody know of a company who can manufacture pressed plates with a single line five digit registration centred on the plate? > 110 XS Double Cab

Another vote for EJ Plates, this time with a shortened plate to suit 5 digits Click image to enlarge They did a square rear at the same time, all BS marked so fully legal (something I had to explain to the dealer at MOT as they believed the plate length was to short). From memory I didnt send them the V5, but they either asked for a photo of it, or the reference number from it 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

I ordered some pressed metal plates from ebay a few years ago - so can't find the supplier, but they accepted photos of all the required documents, and came fully stamped with all correct legislation. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....
