Speaker upgrade
I have the Defender Commercial so the basic audio system with two door speakers and tweeters.

The system sounds okay but l wondered if anyone could recommend some better door speakers that could maybe help compensate for the fact l have no subwoofer.

lt looks like the standard fit door speakers are pretty basic, so shouldn't be too difficult to improve on them.
The tweeters in the top of the doors are probably okay.
Also
How easy is it to get the interior door cards off in order to change the speakers?

Nobody upgraded the door speakers? There's loads of whingeing on the USA forums about the standard speakers being rubbish.

There are recommendations for speakers but they are not available in the U.K.

It might be worth going to see a vehicle audio specialist who could start with a basic audio test, both static and whilst in motion.

Also you could explain your musical preferences, dance is bass, rock is more treble.

My preference is rock, metal, thrash and punk, but i always use classical music when setting up my audio due to the layering of the instruments and how my ear picks out the detail.

Its hard to recommend, as what is right for one person (without the user testing multiple set ups and multiple music styles) might not be right for you and could be even more disappointing.

Speak to a specialised that will listen to what you want and want to achieve, they will have a practical wealth of knowledge.

Sometimes its not just changing speakers, but adding speakers so that you hear more without any increase in volume.

Sorry i cant be that guy that says buy this or that, but as explained, that would not the answer to your question and you deserve better than internet speculation.

just had another thought.

Those US speakers that are not available here, go onto Ebay.com or Amazon.com. These are the US sites, if the speakers are on there they may well deliver to the UK.

Years ago Devon 4X4 did a Tomb Raider rebuild and used Hella Black spot lights which i really liked. I was quoted £350 for the pair! I found them on Ebay.com from a supplier in San Francisco for £125 and a four day delivery.

So might be worth a look.

Will do, thank you

The standard sound is okay but l would like a bit more bass. l am always going to be limited in the Commercial because it only has four speakers and no subwoofer.

Fitting the subwoofer would be the best solution but it appears to not be an option.

It's really not that hard. Picking your new speakers for a decent price it is.

All my knowledge on speaker upgrade can be found here

PS. I do not miss a subwoofer by now, the rear speakers are basically bass units with my mod in the ninety. No Mud flaps for my 90.!
