10 days ago I parted with my D240 First Ecdition that cost me £59k in 2020, it had 21000 miles on it and the dealer exceeded WBAC’s value by £3000 - they gave me £53000 for it against the 90 HSE D250. I was expecting in the £40000’s range - maybe having all the toys on it that are now either costly options or not available helped increase the value. It had been off-roader a lot but very little “added character” and it had part Xpel Stealth PPF wrap. The only thing that the dealer wasn’t happy with was three tiny scuffs on 3 of the alloys…………. even the rain water marking on the Acorn half leather seat edges wasn’t a devalue feature according to the salesman. I was also expecting it being a D240 would count heavily against it but it didn’t seem to make any difference. I haven’t dared look on the Pentland website to see how much mark up they have put on it! You bought a new one. I had £6300 off my P400 - i paid £64540 for it, and £6800 off the BMW.

They could advertise your old one at any price, but it doesn't mean they will get it. |

Thanks for all the feedback.
I will test drive a 110 on coils this week.It still baffles me how in this day and age a 110 HSE can be on coils as standard,commercial versions i can see the point.Am i ever going to be happy going from air as i have had on my last 2 discoveries-probably not. Will update you all with my thoughts when i have driven both side by side Andy |

lf you genuinely feel that way, l would hold out for the air suspension. However it will be interesting to hear what you think of the coil spring version.

Absolutely! For as long as customers appear desperate to snap up any vehicle with any specification, colour, bits missing etc. that the factory deigns to ship to its dealers, JLR will continue with its shabby customer service. I really love the look of the New Defender, but every time I'm tempted to raid my Piggy Bank, all the horror stories I read on here justify my decision to hang on until Euro 7 and buy an alternative. Agree with Birdy, I have told the dealer to come back to me when the service improves and customers get what they ordered and I will place the order for the 110 HSE as planned.
I certainly will not compromise on my spec. |

My only comment would be, try the coil spring version before discounting it, because it may not be the "compromise" you think it is.
Having driven both l would say the only real advantage of the air spring version is the ability to adjust suspension height. So if this is what's important to you, you're going to have to reject the coil spring specification offered. Personally l don't feel the need to alter the suspension height. lf l was ordering again l would go with coil springs. But l've come from the old Defender and compared to that the new one is an absolute world of difference. Others, who have had a Disco or Range Rover on air springs may not want to accept a vehicle with coil springs. |

It's as you say: for a vehicle used mainly in one set of conditions (always a similar load, always on-road, etc) with no special circumstances such as extremely short garages or drivers/passengers (  ), coils are fine. An air suspension does not improve ride quality per se. It just adds flexibility. Even if someone is using a commercial very heavily loaded all the time or if someone wants the 'security' of a coil sprung vehicle for off-road use, coils can easily be changed to deal with the additional load or to provide increased height.
For me personally, though, the great attraction of Land Rovers has been their flexibility; they are the wellies you can wear to the opera. Air suspension only increases that flexibility. No matter what the load, you are at the same height and have a good ride. And you can drive car-like to the mall or 4x4-like off-road. I'd reject a Defender that I ordered with air that was delivered without. And give the dealer a piece of my mind. What a load of crock: selling people one thing and delivering another altogether. And then not even offering a decent apology. Supply chain issues I can understand (though LR somehow seems to be having greater difficulties than everyone else...). But just offering  poor service because you can...

There's no reason to throw yourself off a cliff if your new Defender arrives on coil springs. The air spring version is awesome, and it's better than yours. But the similarities are far greater than the differences.

OP - were you offered a discount to the equivalent amount that air suspension now costs as an option, to take the car as built? Or just told 'Sorry its no longer standard'? Now sold: 2023 Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE (Eiger Grey).

No discount offered.Overall the car drives well enough.Am i as happy with it as i would have been with air suspension?Honestly…..No. My Disco 5 on air with adaptive dynamics was smoother and felt more planted whilst cornering at higher speeds.Both are certainly no sports car of course,but it is noticable. On a positive note,the D300 engine is fantastic. Andy |

The dynamics of the new Defender are different to the Discovery, the air suspension version doesn't drive like a Discovery either.
