Don't worry, the Defender rides great on the coil springs, l've got one and it's superb.
Be aware that it took a few hundred miles for mine to "run in" and when brand new the ride was a bit harsh on bridleways and unmade roads. But now at 3,000 miles it's a lot better. Obviously you won't have the facility to adjust suspension height but unless you are planning extreme off road you won't need it. lt's one less thing to go wrong! You should be due a refund of around £2,000 unless they've somehow absorbed the money somewhere else. |

Thanks for the quick reply.Out of curiosity,is it a 90 or a 110 you have on coils?
The car goes offroad but nothing extreme,just through fields etc to get to the river on the beats we fish. Access height has always been handy for reaching rod carriers. I thought there should be a discount of some sort as i was never made aware it was now an option for the air suspension. Andy |

If I was buying it for long term and commercial or major off-road longevity… coils. For your use I’d re order.
I had a BMW iX 50 on order and they said it was due immediately and I was to be given a ‘small’ refund of £5k for the fact it is now on coils and doesn’t have rear wheels steering. Er no thanks 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

I haven’t tried a 110 on coils only air, I’ve just collected my (2nd) 90 on coils, a little rougher only noticeable because I had air on the 110 but comfortable enough.
Air suspension was made optional a while back, even before I got my 110. Dealer should’ve made you aware of the 23.5my changes. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Good shout. The X545e rides on air and the ride is sublime. With different setting to suit driver modes and preferences. |

lf it's a brand new one, give it 500-1,000 miles and the ride will become noticeably better. |

But it's no longer the case, he'd need to order a different model to get the air suspension. I wouldn't necessarily say coil springs are a bad thing for a Defender primarily used on the road. |

Thanks for all the replies folks.
It is a difficult one as the rest of the spec i ordered is there,just the coil suspension that is making me question taking the vehicle as i will have it for a few years. The dealer has told me the coils ride very well and around 50% of their defenders go out on coil suspension,i am just unsure when coming from a Discovery with air and adaptive dynamics how harsh the ride will feel. I have arranged to drive one over the weekend to get a feel for it and then decide. If i need to re-order then it will be around 6 months for delivery they say. Just annoying as had i been told that it was no longer standard,i would have not hesitated in saying to the dealer to add it on as an option. Thanks,Andy |

I personally wouldn't accept it. You lose so much capabilities with coils... Wading, dynamic mode, entry / exit, the ability to choose etc.

Ask yourself
Will you actually ever use these modes? 99% of the time mine is in "comfort" mode and l rarely feel the need to adjust anything except perhaps to select "eco" when l can remember. If you are still indecisive, the only option is to take an extended test drive in each type (coil springs and air springs) and then make your decision. |

If it were me I would be rejecting it, when you are paying that much for the car and expecting air suspension the fact that it doesn't have it would be a real sore point for me and I would be very
 off with the dealer for not letting me know. We have had a 90 on coils out with us green laning in Yorkshire and it got stuck twice purely down to the ground clearance, if it had the ability to just raise the suspension just a little bit further it wouldn't have got stuck.
At the end of the day it's your car and you have to make the decision on whether to accept it.  Cheers Ian
