What model Def is it? I recall that on 2.2 Pumas the steering angle sensor can cause ABS/TC weirdness if it out of alignment. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Ok so have you checked for any play in wheel bearings? Other things.... Any damaged wiring to the the sensors? Tyre pressures all good? Have you a diagnostic tool that can read the ABS for trouble codes? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Thanks, wheel bearing play maybe worth checking. I have a gap IID tool and there are no fault codes and all wheel sensors are reporting back at slow speeds, bur haven't really checked each one individually yet.

Tyre pressures are good and wheel sizes all original. If its relevant it seems to happen more when turning right.

I have exactly the same thing for 15 years now, from the first day I owned him. It doesn't get worse, but it's never gone away. A lot has been done to the axles in the meantime, but the issue remains. It will not help you but it calms perhaps |

Thanks Hornet, I am driving with it, but the more I look into it the more it's driving me mad! I think after 15 years I would be a gibbering wreck, then again I probably will be anyway.
I can drive super gently slipping the clutch really carefully and it doesn't happen but that's really not the answer. Cheers anyway. 👍 |

I was hoping to use the GAP IID tool to watch the sensors when it happens but it appears you can only watch the sensors at super slow speeds and all I can really tell is that they're all reading something. Unless anybody can advise otherwise...

Could you try systematically moving the sensors around see if you can isolate the problem? I.e. the issue moves from turning right to turning left when you swap the front sensors, you have a culrpit. Or get hold of a single replacement sensor and swap them out one at a time? (Assuming all 4 are the same). Of course it may not be a sensor issue. The system is fundamentally quite simple on the mechanical side so it shouldn't be too hard with a bit of time to satisfy yourself that everything physical is on order. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It's highly likely that the system is working perfectly (hence no fault codes) and that the actual fault lies with the wheel bearings. Darren

There may be a theme developing here.
I'll jack it up later and check wheel bearing play etc. Thanks again, I'll keep you posted |

Will I be able to feel any play in the wheel bearings by hand? And if so is it new bearings or can I repack and tighten, assuming they feel ok.

Ok - quick update I've jacked up and checked both front wheels and the wheel bearings appear to be fine.
I also viewed the live data on the GAP IID tool and both wheels are showing the same values (although I'm not sure why they both sit at 1.1mph until you rotate the wheel.) I've only jacked and checked the fronts as I'm assuming its more likely there as it seems to do it more when turning. Although all wheels show similar figures on the GAP tool. Not sure where to go from here, I have had a quick check on the abs module for loose connections as it seems to do it more if you let the clutch snatch a little rather than a smooth release. |

Another update, in case anybody's interested.
I've replaced both front abs sensors. I've replaced rear offside wheel bearings and seals (as there was a small leak) inspected and checked abs sensor but haven't got round to changing the rears as yet - but its on the list. Still have the same issue every time the car hits a bump in the road or a bit quick on the clutch the abs/tc kicks in for about 2 seconds. Its almost always when turning right and almost never when turning left or straight ahead. Its doing my head in, but I'll keep you informed. |
