Years back i did one of those Landrover factory toors with my son. Was with a random group of Landrover people maybe 30 or so and two factory guides.
Everyone was suitably impressed with the modern production line, new technologies and so forth, but in an unemotional sort of way. THEN we entered the Defender production line (still Real defender then). Everyone going crazy sneaking out to have a closer look asking questions and generally wondering off. Guides sighs, this happens all the time. Nobody is interested in the new stuff. Could not get the group to leave. It was fascinating to see such a traditional production line ( and brand new Defenders ) mixed in with all this modern stuff. |

Looking at the video it all appears very manual. It's great I can say I've got a hand built vehicle like an Aston Martin

WOW , that took me back. Completely different now to back in 2015, the Defender TF is now FA3 TF , Range Rover 460/461 build ( where I work ) . The old BiW Defender bit now is 460/461 BiW , GOOD OLD DAYS Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull..

When LR decided that the Defender was to become an SUV, the writing was on the wall. It was the beginning of the end.
![]() Or possibly the end of the beginning of the end, and the beginning of the end of the end. Or something. Defender was never meant to be an SUV, that is what the Discovery range was for. |

Great to be reminded of my tour also although I don’t recognise the “corrosion prevention” part or the “removal of slight imperfections”
