Matrix headlight woes
My car unexpectedly arrived with matrix headlights. I was actually very pleased about that as they are an expensive option and I had them on my previous Audi A5 (just switch to auto and you never need to do anything for full automatic operation of the lights).

I switched the Defender system to matrix operation in the external lighting menu and noticed the 'dance' on start up so thought it would be similar to the Audi system in terms of going to full beam and blanking off parts to prevent dazzling oncoming road users. However within minutes I was getting flashed constantly by the oncoming traffic so pulled over and switched them back to manual operation.

I tried again a few nights later but was again flashed within a minute of driving off.

Am I going to have to get them checked by a LR service centre or I have I done something wrong in set up? Now sold: 2023 Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE (Eiger Grey).

Have you set them to auto on the stalk, then shows the light symbol on the dash with auto against it 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

Yes its set and shows as AUTO in the IDD, turns blue after a certain speed and just stays there with the oncoming traffic flashing at me to turn them off. It does seem that the camera at the top of the windscreen is not 'reading' these lights and thus no matrix 'blanking' is happening as it should.

Very annoying as didn't even order these as they should be standard on a £63k car Rolling Eyes Now sold: 2023 Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE (Eiger Grey).

That’s a nuisance, you need to get them checked. I use them on auto constantly and haven’t been flashed once.

Need to get them checked, mine work perfectly.

You sure it’s adaptive driving beam and not the woeful high beam assist of the premium led lights? 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Compared to my XC90, the LR matrix lights are poor.

Positive - as its on the Vista build sheet ('064QC Matrix LED Headlights') - the dealer said they were added to my spec FOC due to a shortage of the regular LED's. I have the toggle option in the external lights menu as per above phot0 (English version though)! Now sold: 2023 Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE (Eiger Grey).

Maybe the matrix LED's were added to the build, but not the software to control them.

If they did then surely I would still have auto high beam control? As it is I have to manually go from low to high beam to avoid getting flashed. Now sold: 2023 Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE (Eiger Grey).

If you didn’t get the full TFT dash and the car came with the analogue driver’s display then Matrix were given in compensation. I had to register my displeasure with my dealer that I didn’t get Matrix for free “because you specced them as an optional extra sir” …………. I’m feeling distinctly ripped off buying this Defender. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Yep. I hear your frustration. What should have been a positive experience is anything but.

One plus though, my car is now being looked after by Dick Lovett Land Rover Bath (although its in Melksham Confused Laughing ) and I have to say they have been excellent and are sorting out all the missing bits etc. As for the dealer I bought it off, I've now been forced to go legal on them Twisted Evil
