2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Santorini Black

Access to radio wiring?

I am getting poor reception on the radio - I think the aerial cable may have come adrift.

Is the easiest way to get to it just to remove the two screws on the console and pull it forwards? Is there anything I need to know before I do that?

From memory, it's four pins you push into the tiny holes either side of the radio that push a clip out the way so you can pull the radio out. You can buy the pins from places like Halfords or make some from an old coat hanger. Very easy job to do.

Mine is an Alpine iLX F309 with an external double din display, so it is a bit more involved to remove it (hence wondering if pulling the console forwards is easier).

You should be able to pull the centre panel forward with the head unit in situ, although the distance may be limited by the cable lengths.to the switches etc.

As above, there should be enough room.
I’d suggest putting a bit of silicone or rubber grease on the rubber on the rear of the head unit that keeps it secure at the rear as it then means it’s a bit easier to remove and install and less likely to get really jammed in there to the support at the back. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Thanks everyone for your help. I had a call from Oz at Nene Overland who was very helpful and talked me through what to expect.

I did need to pull the console as the problem was beyond the connectors in the head unit and it took me a while to track down as I was not expecting what I found m the end!

The symptom was poor DAB reception after having had some work done on the car. My suspicion was a connector had been disturbed and needed reseating. I was 50% right. The problem turned out to be the inline fuse holder powering the DAB splitter to the aerial…. There was no fuse in it at all! I have no idea how it hadn’t caused problems earlier!
