Looks good.. really interested in this.
How much better does it look over a standard finish? What protection does the coating give? What is the cost? How long does it last? Thanks Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black Mini Electric................Grey. Scratches. Not major ones but the types of swirls you get from car washing, brushing past it or light contact with vegetation. Also makes it much easier to clean. Had my classic defender done not long after I got it and 4 years later the paintwork was pretty much immaculate.

As already stated, it prevents damage to the paint finish from washing actions, bird droppings, UV, tree sap etc…
The cost varies based on who’s doing it and the products used. I spent £1k on my car. It was at the detailers for 4.5 days and had the following treatments: Full decontamination, wash + iron fallout remover plus light claybaring. Paint enhancement machine polish to remove existing minor scratches and marring caused at the factory and/or dealership. Full interior clean and Gtech protection applied Three coats of Gtech ceramic products on the exterior The exterior protection should last 7 years. 2019 Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography 2023 Defender 110 P400e X-Dynamic HSE - gone 2020 Defender P300 SE - gone 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SVR - gone 2013 SDV8 Autobiography - gone 2011 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE - gone 2006 L322 3.6 Vogue Se - gone 1999 P38 4.0 se - gone 199? Ceramic coating is good, but don't be surprised if you do eventually get swirl marks or other scratches.
I've decided to go for Paint Protection Film this time around when my defender eventually arrives. More expensive than ceramic coating but I'm hoping it will provide better protection from stone chips, small scratches, swirl marks etc. From what I have researched online PPF is usually thicker than ceramic coating and is self healing (to some extent I guess). |

Ceramic coating is not invisible. I have a black VW Crafter LWB as you can imagine being black it's a to clean and it had swirl marks all over. So I got it professionally cleaned mopped polished and coated in ceramic coating, it cost a fortune. A few weeks later it went into the dealers for a service. They cleaned it with a brush its covered in swirl marks again 130's have feeling's as well you know

Ceramic didn’t stop me getting pinstripes on my 110 - for the extra it costs though having it done with self repairing PPF was brilliant and has paid off now I’m part exchanging the car. My yet to be delivered is booked in already to have the bonnet, front wings and both sides done with clear gloss Expel self repairing PPF. I’ve also ha d the bonnet and front wings of my Mini Cooper S E done to protect against stone chips. Expel also comes with a 10 year guarantee against fogging/ yellowing that can be an issue with some PPF’s I found too that it makes the car much easier to wash and dust just doesn’t stick to it and blows off over about 20mph.
BTW the satin matte finish you can opt for on the L663 is an Expel product fitted by the factory, but LR only gives a 3 year warranty on it. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

I've got both on an existing car, and my new defender when it arrives in 2 weeks is going straight in for PPF up to the window line and ceramic coat over the PPF and rest of the car (and wheels). The ceramic coat will not stop swirl marks, it will help, but it isn't self healing; PPF is, however, it's brilliant - just leave the car in the sun and it fixes itself
Ceramic coats only last around 3 years in my experience, but you'll have a v clean car in that time, dirt just falls off. It's cheaper to top up the coat than the first application too. I've been quoted £3k+VAT for the PPF and ceramic coat and wheels, with a mixture of matt/ satin finish PPF over the Tasman blue sections and the usual gloss/transparent PPF on the black bits (X Dyn). |

One thing I have learned from PPF though is if you want the extended wheel arches fitted AFTER the car has been coated then the adhesive strips won’t stick to the PPF no matter how much cleaning you do with the alcohol wipes, you have to cut back the PPF to the paint finish. Hence why I have a full set of 110 European extended wheel arches in an unopened box - should have done better research before buying the wheel arch kit from PowerfulUK! And why I have specced them on my 90 so they are there before the film is fitted!
I made a little YouTube video of my 110 with seagull sh*t from an overnight stop at Carlisle North Premier Inn followed by a day laning right at the end of lock down before anyone had cut back the overgrowth on some of the Lakes lanes - the car is still as glossy and shiny as the day the film was applied. The detailers also did a paint rectification of the pinstripes and did a coating inspection before fitting the film and reckoned that the paint on the L663 was much better applied and thicker than any other LR product that they had done previously. Note, one small thing I don’t like about Expel is that their precut panel templates are not like a wrap in that they are cut to exactly the panel sized and don’t wrap around the edges of the panels - I’ve only had one bit come unstuck in almost 3 years and that was on one of the tight corners of the front bumper, the fitters replaced it it without quaestion but also trimmed the precut panel better to fit around the curve of one of the intakes. Mine is also only up to the window line and the contrast roof was coated with GTechniq Ceramic Serum Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. I went whole hog on PPF since the difference in price from just bonnet and sides wasn't that massive. Ceramic was applied to the film after fitting. Done by a specialist prior to collection from LR dealership. They were nervous about fitting mudflats after the PPF so did that before it went to the detailer.
I wanted PPF as I live in a narrow country lane with passing places, often overgrown with anything from brambles to blackthorn. Ceramic coating would do nothing to prevent damage from that sort of attack. |

Ah good point yes. I want to get a rear bumper cover from Powerful UK if they come back into stock in time, so need to think about fixing that before the PPF (though perhaps it would be less of an issue given the additional surface area for fixing?). https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/land-r...-l663.html |

I've posted in a different thread but my only regret was not PPF-ing the car earlier.
Had to do a bit of correction due to stone chips on the front of the car I would also recommend doing the full car... I could only afford the front (full car was close to 7k GBP here in Japan) and have some bad bramble rash ... Fully recommend the PowerfulUK 'full' rear bumper that covers the edge, I have it installed and it takes a fair amount of abuse. The ones from LR just cover the flat surface of the bumper which means you end up scratching the edge. dumb design. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof IG defender_japan "Hulk san" |

If only it were in stock.
They have (painted black) stainless steel alternative here - https://www.powerfuluk.com/rear-bumper-sta...black.html Do you think that will be as good as the plastic one? (I assume that's what you have). Concerned paint may get scraped and then look untidy. |
